3
Environmental Oversight Committee
Minutes
March 13,2008
OLD BUSINESS:
Review of Action Items:
1) Environmental Education:No input at this time.
2) Mashpee River Dredging:
It was suggested the matter be reverted to the basics of the original
quandary. In early 1995 a petition was presented to the Board of
Selectmen in an attempt to address problems with navigation and
shellfish closures and odor issues.
3) Combine Water-Sewer:
The matter is placed on hold until review of the outcome of the
May 2008 Town Meeting. The Water District has petitioned Town
Meeting to vote to rescind the vote under Article 21 of the May 2007
Town Meeting regarding bringing the elections of the Town and
Mashpee Water District together to maximize participation in the
elections and minimize voter inconvenience. The Water District is
supportive of the goals, however, there are issues and financial
problems associated with Article 21, and until matters are fully
resolved, the issue to combine water-sewer has been placed on hold.
4) Natural Fertilizers/Friendly Lawn Program:
The program is a work-in-progress at the County level in an attempt to
regionalize the approach and obtain additional funding. In addition to
the development of a brochure, a compact disc (CD) format is under
consideration for public disbursement that would be similar to the
Town of Falmouth's lawn program brochure.
