MASHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE—REGULAR MEETING—FEBRUARY 28,2001 PAGE <br /> 9.4 Facilities Study Committee —Mrs. Mills stressed the need for another school <br /> facility in the not too distant future. She asked that a school facility needs committee <br /> meeting be scheduled to address this issue. Mrs. Cook will set this up. <br /> X. New Business There were no issues under"New Business." <br /> XI. Committee Reports 11.1 Sub-Committee Reports <br /> its <br /> 11.1.1 N tiatl ns — Mrs. Lynch said there will be a teacher evaluation committee <br /> meeting on March 21, 200 1. Other issues will be discussed in executive <br /> session. <br /> 11.1.2 High School--Mrs. Cook reported on the recent meeting where the Memorial <br /> Garden was revisited. She asked the Committee's pernmission to hire a <br /> landscape architect to pursue the Memorial Garden project. Permission was <br /> granted. The budget for this project will be presented to the Committee at a <br /> later time. Also discussed at that meeting was a policy on middle school <br /> eligibility on varsity and sub-varsity sports, handbook changes, and moving <br /> toward a varsity hockey program. <br /> Also Mrs. Lynch asked for a sports budget breakdown. Mr. Mc own will <br /> follow-up on this. <br /> 11.1.3 Elementary School—Mr. Caswell said this committee discussed the following <br /> issues at their meeting: 1 uashnet School's request to have a fundraiser with <br /> the band to get shirt sweater unifon-ns,2 Grade 6 requested the possibility of <br /> having a fundraiser for a year-end field trip(perhaps these to fundraisers could <br /> be combined into one event T Mr. Tippo to follow up ; the Coombs School <br /> playground is coming along well; the Quashnet School recess area vectis <br /> another layer of ground cover; the retention and attendance policies were <br /> discussed with possibly meeting with Attorney Butler; 6 perhaps add soccer <br /> and/or basketball nets to the playground discussion. <br /> 11.1.4 Curriculum —Mrs. Cook said the Math revision was discussed earlier and the <br /> World Language curriculum will be discussed in April. <br /> 11.2 External Reports <br /> 11.2.1 Cape Cod Collaborative — Mr. Caswell said he was unable to attend the last <br /> meeting because of a School Committee meeting held that same evening. <br /> However, he reported the alternative education program that began this year <br /> has already exceeded the number of students it was designed for; space <br /> problems were discussed; possibility of entering into a collaborative <br /> agreement for athletic equipment; and projected summer enrollments are <br /> currently seven students from Mashpee. <br /> 11.2.2 Leisure Services — Mrs. Lopez said their meeting was cancelled. However, <br /> Mrs. Cook suggested reviewing the Agreement drawn up between the .hoard <br /> f Selectmen and School Committee in August 1996 and focus on the fees <br /> and maintenance. Leisure Services Director Gus Frederick will be invited to <br /> the April regular meeting. <br />
