4 MASHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE—1 REGULAR MEETING—DECEMBER 5, 2001 PAGE Reductions in Force due to Grant F ndin Ann McInnis—Health Clerical,Coombs School Karen Cofran—Health Clerical, High School .lane Emery- .5 Health Clerical, Quahnet School Coaching Positions - High School Principal Mr. Brown and Athletic Director Michael Horne discussed .the need for three coaching positions for winter sports. Thirty candidates attended hockey ey tryouts recently and Head Coach Mr. Kirby wishes to keep all thirty candidates while only dressing twenty players for games. It was felt that an assistant hockey coach is needed due to the numbers of students and safety issues. Also, there were forty middle school boys and thirty middle school girls who signed up for basketball. With the numbers that high, it was felt there is a need for an additional boys' basketball team and an additional girls basketball team. The need for two additional coaches will ultimately depend on the number of students who attend the tryouts. Mr. Brown requested posting three coaching positions with the number of basketball positions will be based upon the number of students who try out for these teams. Motion made by Mrs. Mills, seconded by Mrs. Deis, to approve Mr. Brown's request for three additional coaches with the two basketball positions based upon the number of students. VOTE: Unanim u .2 Administrative Reports — Mrs. Cook noted in Mr. Horne's report that Kyle Hunt has been named to the South Shore League All Star team. Mrs. Mills questioned 11r. ugenblick's report regarding receiving calls from teachers who are having problems with their printers and computers. It was mentioned that the Apple computers need to be overhauled. Mrs. Cook questioned if the Plato labs are up and running`? r. Brown responded that Plato representatives have been contacted regarding consolidation problems with data. Their field representatives will be examining software. .3 Enrollments — Mr. Fluery updated the Committee on the latest school enrollments. They were: Coombs School—539; Quashnet School— 803; High School —961 with 46 Mashpee students attending Cape Cod Tech. Discussion followed regarding high school enrollments. Mrs. Cooly continues to be concerned with the Selectmen's request of"level funded"budgets vs."level serviced." .4 Out of School Suspensions—the 7th and Sib grade Suspension Deport reflected a total of 4 students receiving suspensions with 21 receiving Saturday School suspensions during the month of November. In Grades 9-12, there were 23 students receiving suspensions with 10 Saturday School suspensions. 8.5 Assistant Principal for Student Services Update — Mrs. Lou Ann St. Cyr discussed her concerns regarding GED students. She said there are currently three alternative settings for at-ri sk students. They are: i dual enroIIment; Tech Prep;
