MASHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE—1 REGULAR MEETING—DECEMBER 5,2001 PAGE 4 <br /> and 3 Tech Prep Plus at Cape Cod Community College. Mrs. St. Cyr then outlined the <br /> following new alternative program for Mashpee students. <br /> 8.5.1 "Cape Open Door" Program—Mrs. St. Cyr said this is a program designed for <br /> students who have not been successful in a traditional school setting. It is open to <br /> students who have already dropped out of schoo.1 and for students who are in school but <br /> failing. The first phase of the prograrn (January 2002 — June 2002) will be funded <br /> through grant money. All students who meet individualized learning plan goals and the <br /> credits associated with the plan (equivalent to the credits needed for graduation will be <br /> able to receive a high school diploma from Mashpee High School. In the future, if <br /> grant money is not available, Mashpee would be asked to contribute $2,000 for each <br /> semester a student is enrolled. Mashpee currently is able to identify 25 students who <br /> could benefit from this program—both former and current students. <br /> Motion made by Mrs. Mills, seconded by Mr. Caswell, to support the Cape Open Door <br /> program in the budget if the program is not supported by a grant. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br /> IX Specifically Assigned/ 9.1 Superintendent's Evaluation — Prior to Mrs. Cook reacting aloud the <br /> Unfinished Business S uperintendent"s evaluation as submitted by Mrs. Mills, Mr. Caswell, Mrs. leis and <br /> herself, IonnJean Lopez has resigned as a School Committee member), Mr. I~leery <br /> read aloud a prepared statement. He stated, "I respect the committee's observations <br /> jointly and individually. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses, myself specially. I <br /> have a difficult job and it is impossible to phase everyone, and if I did, I would <br /> certainly be suspect. But there are areas that have been identified that I will strive to <br /> improve on. Unfortunately,some of the traits mentioned are part of my style and these <br /> may be more difficult to address, but I will make a serious effort. I also believe that <br /> part ofmy effectiveness and successes in the past and present years is directly related to <br /> my style, so in some cases a strength may also be a weakness." Mr. Fluery asked each <br /> committee member to provide more details on their respective evaluation as well a <br /> meet with each of therm. It was agreed that Mr. F luery will submit an action plan. <br /> Mrs. Cook noted in the evaluation that sores of 1, 23 3 = Unsatisfactory; 4,5,6 4 <br /> Satisfactory; 7, 8, 9 = Commendable. The following are the numerical sores given to <br /> the Superintendent for his performance- <br /> A. Relationship with the School Committee - 5.50 <br /> B. Staff&. Personnel Relationships - 4.90 <br /> C. Educational Leadership 6.15 <br /> I . Business&.Finance - 6.00 <br /> E. Personal Qualities - 6.2.3 <br /> OVERALL ALL AVEI E 5.76 <br /> 8.6 CORI Checks — Mr. Fluery discussed a proposed Criminal Offender Record <br /> Information (CORI)policy for all new school department employees. A policy will be <br /> developed for next month's packet in which all prospective employees will be required <br /> to complete a form which will then be submitted to the state for processing. A draft <br /> policy was submitted by School Attorney Butler which states the school department <br /> would disqualify any prospective employee from working in the Mashpee school <br /> system if. sexual offenses against children, embezzlement, and distribution of illegal <br /> drugs or an intent to distribute). This policy will be voted upon at the January regular <br /> Meeting, <br />
