Bo kler dated January 6, 2002 — Mrs. Cook <br /> acknowledged a letter from Mr. Buckler in which he states M shpee High School <br /> senior Kyle Hurt has nominated Su arme Avtges for the Outstanding Biology Teacher <br /> Award. This award is given by the National Association of Biology Teachers to one <br /> biology teacher from each state each year. <br /> .4 Ito from Mrs. Doyle dated ,January 2 , 2002 -.Grant Approvals - Mrs. <br /> Cook acknowledged the Mashpee Community Concert Committee who has agreed to <br /> sponsor a school-wide field trip, two in-school science presentations along with a <br /> diversity conference to be held at the Coombs School for students and their families. <br /> 5.5 Mrs. Cook acknowledged the following students for their efforts from the <br /> Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards: <br /> 0 Alyia Garcia—Honorable Mention in drawing <br /> + Stephanie Needel-Honorable Mention in photography <br /> • Michael McKay—Silver Key in photography <br /> • Steven Davis—Silvery Key in drawing <br /> • Lisa Kelly—Silvery Ivey in printmaking <br /> V1. Communications There were no"Communications"to the Committee this evening. <br /> VII. Student Advisory Student Advisory Council representative Kyle Hurt informed the Committee the <br /> Council issue of senior exemptions still needs to be discussed with other students but he lopes <br /> to bring back to the School Committee at their March meeting. Kyle also expressed <br /> concern regarding the elimination or reduction in the Advanced Placement programs <br /> because of on-going budget discussions. He said they are part of the curriculum and a <br /> great benefit to students. He asked the School Committee to keep the AP programs in <br /> tact when discussing the FY03 budget. Mr. Fluery assured Kyle that at this point in <br /> time there is no plan to either cut or eliminate the AP programs. <br /> At this point ofthe meeting, Mrs. Cook asked the Committee's permission to move up <br /> . , "Coombs School Improvement Plan, 2001-2002 School Year." The Committee <br /> agreed to do so. <br /> Coombs School Principal Louise Doyle acknowledged the following Coombs School <br /> Council members for their efforts in devising the School Improvement Plan: Diane <br /> Cook, Linda Kot, Jennifer LeFavor, Daren Murphy, Kathleen Penney,Alison Robbins, <br /> Carolyn Ryan,Paul Smith,and Greg Taylor. <br /> Mrs. Doyle reviewed the goals of this year's School Improvement Plan which were the <br /> following: <br /> Goal#1 —Academic Accountability <br /> Goal#2—Safety/Security <br /> Goal#3—Communication and Use of Community Resources <br /> Goal# —Facilities Plan <br /> Goal# —Diversity and Sensitivity <br /> Mrs. Kathleen Penney discussed the "Second Step"'program and gave examples of how <br /> helpful it has proven to be in the Coombs School. <br />
