r �t <br /> M SHP L SCHOOL COMMITTEE-REGULAR MEETING_MARCH ,2002 PAGE <br /> .2 Volunteers for Crisis Response. — Mrs. Cook said that due to an unfortunate <br /> passing of a grade 7 student during February vacation week, several staff' members <br /> were called in the assist in responding to this crisis. In memo form High School <br /> Principal Ira brown thanked beth Johnson, Lindsay Rett, Dan Patenaud , Cathie <br /> Drake, MaryRose Grady, Human Services Director for the Town of Mashpee Louise <br /> Patrick, Michael Forde, Cheryl Belanger, John Dolen, Steven Babbitt, Ginny Hufnagel, <br /> Linda Catalina, Beth Nedel and Tracy Volkman for their efforts in making telephone <br /> calls,mailing letters and developing a plan for grief counseling. <br /> Mr. Flu ry also acknowledged School Physician Dr. brooks' office for their assistance <br /> and Dr.George Silva for holding a special clinic for families during this crisis. <br /> .3 Cape Cod Art Association Students' Exhibition 2002 — Mrs. Cook <br /> acknowledged the following Mashpec High School students for their exhibition pieces <br /> in the Cape Cod Art Association contest. They were: First Place -- Renee Wozniak, <br /> "Secret of the Past"; Second Place -- Lizzy Picciello, "Still Life in Blue"; Honorable <br /> Mention—Christine Goldsmith, "Dove birds"; and best of Show receiving the Thelma <br /> McManus Memorial Award Matthew Mitchell"Carrie". <br /> VI. Communications There were no School Committee"Communications"this evening. <br /> VI1. Student Advisory Student Advisory Council representative Kyle Hunt said discussion focused on the <br /> Council senior final exemption proposal at their last meeting. Everything else is going well. <br /> Mrs. Cook asked theCommittee's permission to move to 9.1, "Memorial Carden' at <br /> this point. The Committee agreed. <br /> Is <br /> .1 Memorial Garden — Michael Lyons, Vice President of the Class of 2002, <br /> addressed the Committee regarding the Memorial Garden. He said that after three years <br /> of planning, the site location has been determined. The Class of 2002 will pay $3,500 <br /> toward the completion of this project. Mr. Young ofJ. Young& Sorg Landscaping has <br /> volunteered his time to assist in this effort. Only materials will be required. <br /> Motion mace by Mr. Caswell, seconded by Mrs. Mills, to approve the construction of <br /> the Memorial Garden at the site specified with the initial funding to come from the <br /> Class of 2002. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br /> ill. Report of the 8.1 Personnel—Mr. Fluery updated the Committee on the following personnel <br /> Superintendent issues: <br /> 5 <br /> Marie Grable requested returning on a half-time basis effective Marey 7,2002. After <br /> that she will become full time on April 22,2002 . <br /> Motion made by Mr.Caswell, seconded by Mrs.Mills,to approve Mrs.Grable's <br /> request <br /> VOTE; Unanimous <br /> Appointments: <br /> Greta McCue, Counselor/Social worker--Coombs School Quashnet School <br /> Iathi Cleary- .6 School Community Liaison—High School <br /> Timothy Roberts—Custodian-High School <br />
