i MASHP E SCHOOL 1 MITT —REGULAR MEETING—OCTOBER 1, 2003 PAGE 3 The Senior Project will be a full year activity that will be piloted in the next two years. It is anticipated this Project will be a graduation requirement in 2006. 8.6 Rowing Club — Coombs School Principal Mrs. Doyle addressed the Committee on the concept of offering young children an opportunity to benefit from a rowing club wherein students would "Row Around Cape Cod." Flowers' accomplishments will b mathematically and geographically involved. With the assistance of Coombs School nurse Mrs. Nyeand/or Physical Education teacher Mrs. Mitchell,, students would benefit from exercise other than participating in gym class. Two rowing machines will be sent to the Coombs School by Concept 2. Benefits would include entire body building, aerobic exercise, helping the hurt and lungs be strong and Muscle growth. .7 S I S /MASS Joint Conference November 12-14, 2003 — V tin Delegate and Alternate—Motion made by Mrs. Mills, seconded by Mrs. Lopez, to n o m1nate Mrs. Cook at the voting delegate to the joint conference. VOTE: Unanimous 8.8 Telephone System Upgrade — Mrs. Par lski presented the tel phone system upgrade for the Coombs School and Quashnet School. It was recommended to award the bid to Carousel Industries in the combined total amount of $56,237.38 Coombs School - $28,747.83; Quashnet School - $27,4 9. and to Merrimack Communications for the high school upgrade totaling$12,070. Motion made by Mrs. Mills, seconded by Mrs. Lopez, to approve the bids submitted by Carousel Industries Avaya and Merrimack Communications. VOTE: Unanimous .9 MCAS Overview — Math Coordinator Joy Blackwood and English/Language Arts Coordinator Ann English addressed the Committee on the MCAS Fest Administration Schedule as well as the MCAS performance level results. .1 L!i-gh School Music Teacher — Mr. Brown addressed the Committee regarding the need for a 0.5 FTE music teacher for Mashpee High School who would teach seventh and eighth grade music and seventh grade band. This would allow the current teachers to focus more on voice class and Piano Lab 11. Motion made by Mrs. Mills, seconded by Mrs. leis, to approve the need for a 0.5 FTE music teacher at the high school. VOTE: Unanimous Mrs. Mills stressed this is not a "frivolous" position but is needed to allow improvement at the high school level in the music program.
