Bradshaw asked Mr.- Home if there were any changes other than the
Eligibility of Captains and Substance Abuse Policy. Mr. Hoare said there was
not. Mrs. Bradshaw recommended that there be one policy and ensure that it be
in both handbooks.
Mrs. Bradshaw explained that many persons have reviewed and worked on the
handbooks. She then presented a poster with the proposed changes. Mrs.
Bradshaw stated that she would like to have the same policy for both athletics and
extra curricular activities. The main points are that students have to pass 6 major
subjects out of 7 subjects and that students must be in school all clay to be in
performance or athletic event. 'T'here was some discussion about being able t
participate in practice. As well, there have been changes proposed to the language
f being in the presence of drugs and alcohol. There re'also changes discussed
for Captains and Officers. The school council has proposed that for out-of-
school suspensions or two in-school suspensions, students cannot be a captain for
365 clays from the date of the event.
+ Where was a lot ofdiscussion about the proposed changes to the handbook, Mrs.
Romkey expressed that these penalties are not a punishment but a way to save
lives. Mr. Marcelli stated that he felt that if a rule is violated than the student
should lose their captaincy for life. There should not be a second chance.
Mrs. Bradshaw suggested to the committee that if they felt they were not ready t
vote on the athletic handbook' section of the Mashpee High School handbook
perhaps this section could be postponed to the next meeting.
Mr: Mareelli suggested the entire committee should be present to make a decision.
A decision was made to postpone the vote on the Athletic Handbook changes
until the July 1 , 2007 meeting.
Mashpee School Committee Finance Meeting June 20, 2007
