He reminded school committee <br /> i members to listen to the subcommittee, public, and the athletic <br /> director. <br /> The committee made a decision to move up the agenda item for the <br /> Athletic/Extra Curricular Substance Policy. <br /> Ix. Report of <br /> The Superintendent 9.7 Athletic/Extra Curricular Substance Polio -Mr. Bailey stated <br /> that he has respect for the all the work clone on the handbook, but <br /> opposes several provisions of it. These include language <br /> surrounding: <br /> • Only when school commences. <br /> Treatment atment facility—this should be for second offense. <br /> 0 He disagrees with language of`being in the presence of. <br /> • Mr. Bailey discussed that peer leadership is important and <br /> there should be penalties for those who use or abuse. <br /> Mrs. Mills stated that she had worked on the handbook with Mr. <br /> Thomas. She agreed with Mr. Drew and Mr. Bailey and felt that <br /> parents need to make decisions for students. <br /> Mrs. Romkey stated that she disagreed. She stated that the <br /> committee is here to set rules and standards. She felt that these <br /> penalties were not punishments. She stated that if you wake <br /> choices you are responsible. She felt that captains must be held to <br /> a hiker standard. <br /> Mrs. Grady stated that in the presence of language is too hard to <br /> enforce, and at this time she could not support the `in the presence <br /> of language. She stated she did support the 365 day penalty. <br /> `here was continued discussion about the substance abuse policy. <br /> Mr. Bailey made a motion, seconded by Mrs. Mills to eliminate the <br /> language surrounding `in the presence of and `guilt by <br /> association.' <br /> VOTE: In favor- Mrs. Grady, Mr. Bailey and Mrs. Mills; <br /> Opposed: Mr. Marcelli and Mrs. Romkey. <br /> 5 <br /> Mr. Bailey made a motion, seconded by Mrs. Mills to have a time <br /> frame that students are subject to discipline from the first Fall <br /> practice to the last day of school, including holidays and vacations. <br /> VOTE: In favor- Mr. Bailey and Mrs. Mills; Opposed- Mrs. <br /> Grady, Mr. Marcelli and Mrs. Ro .k y. <br /> School Committee Regular Meeting July 18, 2007 <br />
