t
Infection Control Training for officers
This is a brand new item and is mandated training for personnel. The Chief also stated
that he has made sure that the Hepatitis B series shots have been brought up to an
acceptable level.
Other'Training
This is additional courses, such as defensive tactics for officers. This line item is in the
amount of$3,536.
Chief Przybylek noted to the Finance Committee that he is going to try to get some of this
money restored. He stated that what they are going to tell them is that this money has been
spent at the rate of$2501,000 to$3005000 per year and that he and the Deputy Chief Cooper
pay particular attention to it. He stated that he feels they have rade some very good progress
in controlling overtime which was much, much over budget every year. He noted that they
are going to try to get the amount back up to$250,000.
+ 198 Police Longevity
Chicf Prybylek noted that this line item is a contractual obligation, therefore a faxed account.
• 199 Police Differential wage
Chief Przybylek noted that this line item is a contractual obligation, therefore a fixed account.
40 240 Police Holiday Pay
Chief Przybylek noted that this line item is a contractual obligation, therefore a fixed account.
0 201 Police Educational Incentive
Chief Przybylek stated that the figure of$84,993 reflects 100%0 of the educational incentive
under the Quinn Bill;however, 1/2 o that amount is funded by the State and l z is funded by
the Town. He noted that about$42,,000 is a town expense and that is the way it was presented
at Town fleeting—a$20,000 increase in the line item.
Chain, nan Watt noted that it was his understanding that the Finance Committee was assured,
at the meeting with the Selectmen prior to the Town Meeting, that this was a better deal for
the town financially. He stated that it looks like it has increased the budget by$26,00.
Chief Przybylek stated that he has never heard that it would be cheaper or the same. He
stated that his input would be that he has lost some people because of the absence of the
Quinn Bill. He stated that, overall, the educational incentive would not hurt the town but
would enhance their productivity later. He said he had heard it expressed as an over$20,000
increase. He said it was his understanding from the beginning that it was an over$2.0,000
increase but he felt that it was a fair trade-off from his perspective in what it would do for
them in recruiting and on their long-terra performance.
Mr. Golub stated that he had the same understanding as Chairman Watt. The Finance
Committee stated that they would review the minutes of the aforementioned Town fleeting.
0 202 Police Clothing Allowance
Chief Przybylek noted that this is a slight increase over last year with additional people on
staff.
• 203 Police vacation Buy-Back
Chief Przybylek noted that this is relatively unchanged other than there were some wage
increases since last year.
