It was noted that theSelectmen's recommendation for Expense is in
the amount of$1230170.00. The difference is in the amount of$770.00 which had been taken
out of the Communication Expense.
Mr. Goggia stated that the question the Finance Committee has is on the-clerk position in the
budget.
Mr.Hauck stated that they need at least a part-tine clerical person in their office. with the
development of Southport coming on, it is critical that they have more personnel in the office.
He noted that either himself or the other wilding Inspector are staying in the office working
with Pat,their secretary, just to keep up with the office work. He noted that the Inspectors are
doing clerical work.
Mr. Goggin noted that the Selectmen are not recommending the addition of a clerical person.
Mr. Hauck informed the Finance Committee that with the addition of Southport, they cannot
keep up with Southport if there is not more help. He stated that the idea is to have another
clerical person in the office which would cover Southport and free up the Inspectors.
Mr.Hauck noted that when Southport cane along,he noted to the wilder of Southport that
their office cannot handle the Southport project if he comes on-lute with 10 permits in
year. Mr. Hauck suggested that the Builder may have to give a gift or fund a clerical person.
Mr. Hauck rioted that at the Selectmen meeting on March 9,the builder will offer to fund
position to handle the work.
Mr. Golub questioned Mr. Hauck if there would still be a need for additional clerical help,
excluding Southport. Mr.Hauck stated that they stili need additional clerical help, without
Southport. He stated that he would like a full-tune clerical position, but he would settle for
part-time.
Mr. Golub questioned what the Building Inspector Part-Tune Adan budget request in the
amount of$14,573.00 is for. IIIb. Hauck rioted that he added that request in order to give him
choices--the choice is either get another part-tune clerical person in the office or they could
get another part-time inspector.
Mr. Golub questioned Mr.Hauck on what the most expeditious way to solve the problem and
relieve the administrative backlog at the office would be. Ilrlr. Hauck stated that he would
rather have a full-time clerk and Russ, the other Inspector, and himself would handle the
inspections. He stated that they could handle the inspections themselves rather than have
another part-time inspector that might not be able to do the job properly. By having
additional clerical help, it would free himself arta Russ up to go out and do the inspections.
He stated that, right now,one of them is always in the office helping with the clerical duties
when they should be out doing inspections.
Mr. Hauck added that they have a new computer system and they are changing the process of
issuing permits from manual to putting them in the computer. He stated that this results in
extra time needed to learn the system.
