Finance Committee Minutes <br /> May 23,2000 <br /> Page Two. <br /> Chief Baker gave handouts to Board .embers: Muultiplc Response Profile,and Salary and Wage <br /> Balance. Chief Baker said the bottom line is if they keep going ft rate they are going they will not <br /> make it beyond two weeks payroll. <br /> The Chief explained fire and rescue responses on handout* Mr. Arnold asked wont fining after three <br /> alarms. The Chicf said he cannot fine homeowners for acts of God. He has six payrolls left and <br /> there is not a lot he can cut back on without being in violation of the contract. He cannot stop <br /> emergencies from happening and cannot stop contractual obligations'. Mr.Arnold said actually it is <br /> a X40,000 miscalculation in overtime. Sheldon said W Arnold was absolutely right. They felt it <br /> would be more efficient in intaindrng 5 people wi the station and only two people allowed on <br /> vacation. It did not happen because of paramedic required,because of lieutenant in station,because <br /> of mall patrol,and multiple calls received. It was a miscalculadon from the very beginning. Chief <br /> said they missed forecasting how many tines the engine goes out and how many times they have t <br /> call one person,two persons,etc, The formula was forecasted for 1.5 people and it was actually 2. <br /> Mr.Arnold mentioned that he met with Chief Baker in February regarding fire inspection fees and <br /> asked if anything had been done. Chief Baker said the State law says they cannot charge more than <br /> $10.00. Falmouth has a pert fee and an inspection fee and are being sued right now. He was <br /> prepared to go to the Selectmen with a new menu of fees until he saw what was happening. <br /> Nix. Golub asked if they approve this mer what would be left in the Deserve fund and Ms. Gibbs <br /> said$14,406.29. Discussion followed if it could be dont in two phases. Ms.Gibbs noted the busy <br /> season is quickly approaching,and she did not know if they could do it in two payments. She would <br /> feel comfortable giving them the potential shortfall because it is agWwq the law to deficit spend. <br /> Motion,to Transfer Money from the Reserve fid: <br /> IVIS. Gibbs made motion that the Finance Commiuce approve the Request to Transfer from the <br /> Reserve Fund to the Fire Department the amount of $59,567 to cover the potential deficit in their <br /> Salary and Wage account. <br /> Motion was seconded by Mr. Golub. <br /> Vote: Passed by majority— /approved—I bstain <br /> Approved: Arden,Arnold, Golub,Morgan, Gibbs <br /> Abstain: Cashnun <br /> Chief Balser invited Board members to cone by and look at his figures,and Chmrman Arden said he <br /> may like to do that. <br /> NEW BOARD MEMEBEIFU <br /> C Arden said he met with the new member of the Board,Carlton Meredith. Mr.Meredith <br /> apologized for not making the meeting this e r g but will attend the next meeting. <br /> NEW BOAR]SECRETARY: <br /> Chaim=Arden introduced Joan Leombruno the new Secretary to the Board. <br />
