rye 4
holiday pay. The other day under discussion is the day after Thanksgiving. The
clerical union staff and PAP employees receive a holiday because of their union
contract. out of six library staff, four will be on holiday. I bring this up because it
will be difficult to staff the library that day with just Lauren and me. I would like to
discuss this matter at the meeting. The library is staffed and open on Saturday.
I have had several conversations and emails with L.ili Seely, a grant writer who is
working on foundation grants for the friends, underwritten by ToriO'Neill. I have
provided documentation to her on several subjects and ret with her at the library
on October 14 t". She expects to send the first application off this week and has
several others in mind for the near future. I was impressed with her
thoroughness and have high hopes that she will have success with her
applications.
f
After the State Aid workshop, I visited the Mattapoiset Public Library. Judy
Wallace, the former director of Brooks Free Library, invited me to see their
construction project. They are temporarily housed in a school building. I would
like to visit there again with Bridget and Janet Burke to see how they have
organized their space. I will also speak to staff in Falmouth once they have
completed their rove to temporary space. I think we can benefit from the advice
of both groups.
toured the new Larusso Technology Building at CCCC. They have built a green
building: using new technology. Michael Gross, Public Relations Director for the
college, answered a number of questions I had about the building. I passed on
information about it to Shelly Gilbert and suggested he mention it to the Planning
and Construction committee. There were a number of low cost energy savings
features to the building that any project might adapt to decrease utility cost.
You will note on Janet's report that she talks about her meeting with the new
librarian at Mashpee high School. We have never had much connection with the
High School so we are particularly excited at establishing a- connection there.
Goal 5 on our Long Lange Flan talks about establishing a closer relationship with
the'schools. Goal 4 talks about increasing services to teen users. Staff at the
High School can be very useful in getting the message to teem that we have
items of interest for therm at the public library. Janet has put a display about
Teem Read Week in the front display case and is conducting a raffle for teens
who visit the library this week. Kari L.aPoint, the High School Librarian, is
displaying some posters about our activities.
