r _
Mashpee Public Library
P 0 Box 657
Mashpee MA
Circulation for November 2008 was 8,592 items. This compares with last year's
circulation of 10,310. Year-to-date circulation is 53,593, compared to 60,836
items circulated during the same time period last year. I expect we will continue
to see smaller monthly totals as long as we are in the temporary location.
You may have seen the articles in the newspaper about the proposal to change
Joy St from a pedestrian mail to an actual street. I don't know what impact that
would have on the library. We may or may not still be tenants during the
timeframe any construction would take place. The most recent news article said
a public hearing will be held on January 7"'. Anyone wanting more information
might plan on attending the hearing.
If you've driven by the library location recently, you've noticed that the trees
have been cleared from the lot. In addition, the town was waiting for all the
demolition permits to be issued. I spoke to Rick Pomroy (OPM) this morning to
get an update on the time schedule. He has a meeting with the Bufftree Builders
to review the schedule. The contractor needed to develop a workflow plan on
tracking the removal of any debris from the site. As a LEED building, the town
has to document how all material was recycled or disposed of. Rick wanted to
meet with Bufftree before demolition began to review how they would be track
and handled that aspect of the project. This is the first LEED project for Rick and
Bufftree so Rick wanted to be sure everyone understood the tracking
requirements before anything was removed from the site. The site needs to be
completely fenced for everyone's safety before demolition and construction can
start. Rick said the fence should start going up by the end of this week.
Catherine Laurent is serving as the town's communications point person between
the town and the OPM. The P&CC will contact Catherine about any related
needs and she will contact the OPM as needed. Access to the site must be
scheduled through the OPM for safety reasons and so as to not interfere with the
general contractor's work schedule. Rick has informed Bufftree that his crew and
subcontractors will not discuss the project in local coffee shops or other public
places. All official news will come through the town to ensure accuracy of facts.
Patience Jackson will be on the Cape December 22"d. She is visiting a nearby
library that is considering a building project. She has not yet seen our temporary
location so she plans to stop by for a visit after her business with our neighbors.
Our project should be underway by then so she should at last see a hole in the
ground.
