Middle School principal Sheila Arnold and Middle
School Hi School Librarian Dari Lapoint have been fantastic partners throughout the planning
 p
process serving ori'the Strategic Plwm g Committee and arranging to bring the teens to the
Library. They have both been enthusiastic supporters of the Libre and advocates for
improving services to the young people they work with on a daily basis.
The afternoon of June 14 the Strategic Plamin.g Committee met and under the guidance of Deb
Hoadley of the 1 LC,participated in a Community Visioning exercise. The goal of the exercise
was for participants to share their vision for the future of Ma.shpee as a community. Once this
information was gathered, the group considered whether or of the Library could, or would play
primary, supporting, or minimal role in helping the community achieve this vision by
participating in these activities. For example, a committee member said that in their vision for
the f lashp ee community, there is a community swinging pool. That activity could then be
slotted into the category of projects that would benefit the community, but that the Library would
not play a major role in that type of endeavor. overall, the group felt that the Library could play
a-primary rolQ in supporting the business community, coll4bo.rating with the schools, peering
with other non-profits, and working to promote partnerships with the Warnaang Tribe.
The community survey was launched after the second Strategic P1Iin Committee meeting and
is available on the front page.of the town website. The survey.can also be completed in hard
copy and is being distributed at the library. Currently 90 respondents have completed, or
partially completed the survey online, and close to 70 have completed the paper version. The
results will be tabulated and presented for discussion at the final Strategic Planning Committee
meeting on August 16.
On June 20, I attended the board meeting for the Cape Cod and Island Library Association
(CCEIA). The Massachusetts Library System has asked CCILA to co-sponsor an afternoon
trainingworkshop on the topic of Building S' ort for Your Library.
