non-supportive of any proposals/amendments associated with
Mashpee Cormons, even if it is something that would benefit the
Town as a whole.
r. Storrs further stated his opinion that no one associated
with Mashpee Commons should address the Article at Town Meeting
as it is not solely a Mashpee Commons Article. He suggested the
Town Planner should answer any technical questions which may
arise; and that one of the Selectmen explain and endorse it (the
logical person being Selectman Marsters, as he is Chairman of
this Committee) . Mr. Storms further~ stated his belief to be that
the Amendments under discussion would benefit every commercial
project in mashpee, not Mashpee Commons exclusively.
Ms. Brooks made the point that MCLP should speak at the Town
meeting in order to explain exactly what is being proposed.
Selectman Marsters recognized Beverly Kane, who stated that
she has attended most to the Mashpee Commons Advisory Committee
Meetings and suggested that perhaps Mr. Storrs has misread the
citizens of Mashpee. she commented on how much she, personally,
enjoys Mashpee Commons .
Ms. Kane pleaded with lir. Storrs that he understand the
concept that the Mashpee Commons property is located within the
ashpee River Sub-watershed and affects the Mashpee River. She
explained the watershed Committee is interested in the
preservation, protection, and renewal of the River and that they
are very concerned with any possible severe, additional impacts
resulting from the proposed Mashpee Commons project and that
these issues should be the prime consideration.
Ms. Kane further~ stated if concern for the Mashpee River is
used by 1CLP as a planning basis and if the pertinent reports are
made available and explained to the Townspeople, she predicted a
lot of people would he converted.
Mr. Storrs stated he was in agreement with and appreciated
those comments made by the precious speaker. However, he asked
to make two points. The decision had been made by this Committee
to best deal with the technical issues of wastewater management
at the Sewer Commission level and to appear before this Committee
and report their findings. Mr. Storrs informed the Committee
that this process has begun and made reference to hand-out
material Memorandum and reported on the Sewer Connission meeting
he attended and the accomplishments thereof. He reported they
had spoken about the South Mashpee concept which would consist of
treating wastewater on site and disposing of it in South Mashpee,
either south on Great Neck road or at the New Sea] ury of f course
area.
Mr. Storrs reiterated the Conunercial Center Bylaw Amendments
had absolutely nothing to do with generating any more wastewater.
-3-
