have fallen within the two milligrams per liter category over the
past few months; thereby having no impact upon the Mashpee River.
Although this may currently be the case, Mr. Lu bsden stated
that in the beginning Mashpee Commons contributed to some of the
environmental problems. Mr. Lumbsden doted the Mashpee River is
in severe trouble and despite efforts made by developers, it
continues to decline and this is what has so many of the
Townspeople concerned. He also asked how the situation at the
River i s going to be improved.
Mr. Storrs stated Mashpee Commons has always been on a
wastewater treatment Plant, thereby producing and treating
wastewater at a higher level than an on-site system. He stated
MCLP is currently working in conjunction with the Sewer
Commission to transport the treated wastewater for disposal in
an area outside of the Mashpee River Watershed. The hope is that
other large projects will be interested in participating in this
endeavor with Mashpee Commons.
The Chairman recognized Mr. Baker, who wished to point out
that he is concerned with nitrate levels associated with road run
off, as well as that of sewerage. He stated it is his belief
that the road run off and impervious surface aspects have to be
examined much more thoroughly. with reference to the inclusion
of other constructed septic systems within the Mashpee live
Watershed, he pointed out as a point of information, that there
has been a request rade in a Petition Article for Town Meeting to
establish a district of critical planning concerns for the
Mashpee River watershed, which 'some people from the business
community argued very strong opposition to.
Mr. Baker stated, "The bottom line is we tried to do our
thing and people stopped us# people that were the Town leaders
and people that were in the employ of mashpee Commons. Thank
you. t1
Mr. Storrs objected to statements made by the previous
speaker and stated, "I 'd really prefer that not go into the
Minutes. If that goes in the minutes, I 've got to counter
it. I do. I can' t allow somebody to make a statement that
members of Mashpee Commons worked against that process and have
it go into the Minutes and not respond to it . ,,
At this point, Selectman marsters offered Mr. Storrs the
opportunity for rebuttal .
Mr. Storrs stated, "I disagree wholeheartedly with virtually
everything he said, specifically about Mashpee Connons. 11
(Please note that I have never considered it to be a
function of my duties to censor~ anything from the Minutes that
