David Leveille reported the total amount of trash
calculated for 1999 was 4, 546 tons . The Cape Cod Connission and
the lashpee Board of Health estimate the town to be at thirteen
(1 percent recycling for the year 1999; for the sake of
working the figures, Iarid Leveille stated he used the figure of
fifteen 1 percent. Fifty loads costs Three Hundred
Fifty ($350 . 00) Dollars each to haul for a total of Seventeen
Thousand Five Hundred ($17, 500 . 00) Dollars . The fifty 5 loads
can be reduced to five 5 loads by compacting; for a total of
One Thousand Seven Hundred Fifty ($1, 750 . 00) Dollars; resulting
in a savings of Fifteen Thousand ($15, 000 . 00) Dof lars on the 1999
estimates. Plastic equates to . 855 in weight, of total trash,
based upon figures taken from the Recycling and Composting Surrey
Report of 15 . 84 tons of plastic per year.
The amount of savings presented. by David Leveille were based
upon actual current figures- ' there was some discussion regarding
projected future sayings on the number of loads required to be
removed and that of tipping fees with regard to recycling
plastics.
David Reveille explained the savings calculated with regard
to recycled cardboard had been based upon tipping fees; whereas
the savings involved with the recycled plastics will be realized
in the hauling fees.
Committee Members thanked Mr. Leveille for the time and
effort expended in computing the above calculations, and for
presenting the Explanation to the Committee.
MOTION: Veronica Warden made a motion to recommend approval
to the Hoard of Health of the Mashpee Recycling-Compactors may
2000 town Meeting Article and Explanation, , as prepared and
presented by David Leveille, on behalf of the Recycling
Committee, with the express understanding that amendments to said
Explanation are possible if deemed necessary by the Board. of
Selectmen; which Motion was duly seconded by Stephanie Jones and
so voted unanimously.
David Leveille explained five ( forty-two cubic yard
containers are being proposed, one 1 to be a spare, three
for plastics, and one ( for cardboard.
