ti
Both the Chairman and veronica warden seemed to be very much
in favor of the suggestions made in said letter- David Leveille
requested the opportunity to review it in more detail .
At this point of the Meeting David Leveille determined that
Mr. Cassanelli, Coastal Waste Management, was unable to attend
the Meeting, as indicated on the agenda for 6: 30 p.m. , to discuss
Compactors/Baler.
Weston & Sampson-Review of Compactor Specs
After having been called to order by the Chairman, Davi.
Leveille reported the RFP P has been prepared and forwarded to
Weston & Sampson for a technical review; and to Town Counsel for
a legal review.
David Leveille relayed a conversation he had with Daryl.
There was some discussion regarding compacting ratios for
trash and for plastics. It has been suggested that the plastics
be ]paled. Mr. Leveille reported that if necessary, arrangements
will be made to have a representative from a baling company
attend a Recycling Committee Meeting.
Mr. Leveille reported a 3 to 1 ratio can be used for
plastics being compacted. The approximate cost for a portable
baler is $15, 000. 00 and would be extremely labor intensive.
The alternative would be a horizontal ]paler at a cast o
$80, 000 . 00 plus and require some type of enclosure, resulting in
a very expens I ve propos.A t .on:
Mr. Leveille suggested the Committee ma} e a decision to
recommend the use of compactors with a 3 to 1 ratio; or to
investigate the option of using bailers.
The Chairman stated he has done some research and has specs
for trash compactors. It is his understanding that less force i
required to compact plastics than trash.
The Chairman also reported on information obtained from the
Town of Yarmouth regarding their purchse of a single-ram for mil.
jugs.
David Leveille le inquired as to the prices for a single vs.
double rain system, the Chairman responded he d.d not have those
kinds of figures available.
The Chairman stated his opinion to favor the purchase o
compactors rather than balers. Balers require either a container
for the deposit of rec clable , or some type of protector over
the bins. A Boli Cat or forklift would also be required to move
materials into the balers and to transport the bale.
-2-
