One half a million <br /> people are using the .L.A.M. . network . They save money 'by borrowing <br /> hooks, which is something that the Library Assistant does . Currently, <br /> they are working on a collection development prof so that they can <br /> map what someone ' s collection is made up of. Once those kinds of things <br /> are known, they won ' t buy specific books . <br /> Joe asked how the boobs are transported from other locations? Someone <br /> fills out, a request slip . The Library Assistant puts it in. the <br /> computer. There might be ten places and only one place might get the <br /> message. It is routed and brought to Falmouth by a delivery man. There <br /> it is broken down. Joe asked how the delivery man isp aid'? Toni said <br /> that the delivery man is contracted by the State directly, Joe asked <br /> how often . .A.N. S . is used . Helene said that in one - way or another, <br /> they are using it very often-. The .L.A. .'S, terminal is used for <br /> _cataloging and checking books out . <br /> Bob Sullivan asked if they were gearing up to purchase books for the <br /> arts? Helene said they didn 't have space to handle a large volume . it <br /> would depend on what people are coming in and looking for. Discussion <br /> centered around video cassettes . Helene said that they currently own <br /> four hundred video tapes plus the circulation in which they get <br /> additional ones each month. Toni said that they have access to the <br /> Boston Public Library to borrow things . <br /> Helene commented that Mashpee is spending ,o which is sli ht <br /> g y <br /> one-half a percent of the budget, <br /> With regard to the increase of hours for the Library Assistant, Helene <br /> said the reason for the request for additional hours is becauise of <br /> people taking vacation time or going to meetings . With one staff member <br /> available for duty, it will insure coverage for the Fours they are <br /> opened . Also, there is a concern if the person on duty gets sick or has <br /> an accident. Helene said that if there is any disruption at the library, <br /> you should have two people there : Joe- asked if there have been disrup- <br /> tions Helene replied not at this library, but at the library she <br /> previously worked they had a number of them. <br /> Joe asked if there are always people in th-e library? Helene responded <br /> that there are times when staff is theme alone.
