CHAPTER 291 - Mandates that school districts have a policy requiring notification of <br /> parents when implementing or maintaining a curriculum which primarily involves human sexual <br /> education or human sexuality issues, and provides parents the opportunity to instruct the <br /> school district to exempt their children from such presentations. Effective in September 1997. <br /> CHAPTER 294 - The Education Technology Bond Bill. Provides $89 million in <br /> authorization for education technology. $30 million in matching grants to local school districts. <br /> CHAPTER 323 - Amends Section 84 of Chapter 71 to extend the DOE sponsored <br /> "Family Networks Program" to children from kindergarten to grade 3. <br /> CHAPTER 374 - Establishes new practices for school districts to promote the incidence <br /> of Braille literacy among blind and sight-impaired students. <br /> CHAPTER 151 - THE FV'97 STATE BUDGET <br /> Several sections of the state budget effect public education including the following: <br /> The restructuring of the Board of Education and eliminating the Executive <br /> Office of Education. (Sections 40, 41, 42, 223, 224, 225, 532, & 634) <br /> Establishing a Commission to study Special Education (666) <br /> Reauthorizing SBAB and the current reimbursement percentages through the <br /> year 2001. (499 & 500) <br /> Extends the time for "Bond Anticipation Notes" from 2 to 5 years. (553) <br /> Reactivates the Education Reform Review Commission and the Foundation <br /> Budget Review Commission. (510 & 667) <br /> Requires DOE to include foster children in addition to children on AFDC in <br /> calculating Title I allocations. (629) <br /> Allows regional school districts, subject to approval of all member communities, to <br /> reallocate required local contributions by the regional agreement. (220) <br />
