Page 14 <br /> Mashpee School Committee <br /> Minutes-Regular Meeting <br /> October 2, 1996 <br /> VIII. 8.2 Fireman's Grant - Nick Feldman <br /> New <br /> Business Nick Feldman indicated that the Paul and Phyllis Fireman Charitable <br /> (continued) Foundation has announced a new grant program aimed at helping <br /> pre-adolescent and adolescent girls to be confident,competent, and <br /> thrive in their lives. <br /> The initiative, called the Girls ACTION (Achieving Confident <br /> Transformation through Initiative and Opportunity Now) will be <br /> awarded and expended over a three year period to non-profit organizations, <br /> schools, and collaboratives in the Greater Boston, Southeastern <br /> Massachusetts, and Cape Cod areas. <br /> Mr.Feldman indicated that he has discussed and reviewed the funding <br /> initiative with Diane Hoppensteadt, Principal of the Morse Pond School <br /> in Falmouth. It was noted that the Falmouth School Committee voted <br /> unanimously to endorse the proposal. <br /> The program as defined will primarily focus on girls aged 8 through 14, <br /> and will serve approximately 60 girls in the Mashpee community. <br /> As noted,the program is intended to focus on math and science activities <br /> in addition to creative after school programs. <br /> Mr.Feldman indicated that the collaborative approach between the <br /> Mashpee and Falmouth school systems is a positive approach to <br /> pursue grant funding. <br /> Motion made by Mrs.Lynch to approve and support the Fireman's <br /> Girls ACTION grant application as defined. <br /> Motion seconded by Mrs. Mills. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 4-0. <br /> 8.3 Memorandum of Agreement - Unit C <br /> The Committee reviewed the Memorandum of Agreement between the <br /> Mashpee School Committee and the Mashpee Teachers' Association, <br /> Unit C. <br /> Motion made by Mrs. Lynch to approve the Memorandum of Agreement <br /> as presented between the Mashpee School Committee and the Mashpee <br /> Teachers' Association, Unit C. <br /> Motion seconded by Mrs. Cook. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 4-0. <br /> It was noted that all contract negotiations are now complete for the <br /> next three years. <br />
