Page 14 Mashpee School Committee Minutes-Regular Meeting October 2, 1996 VIII. 8.2 Fireman's Grant - Nick Feldman New Business Nick Feldman indicated that the Paul and Phyllis Fireman Charitable (continued) Foundation has announced a new grant program aimed at helping pre-adolescent and adolescent girls to be confident,competent, and thrive in their lives. The initiative, called the Girls ACTION (Achieving Confident Transformation through Initiative and Opportunity Now) will be awarded and expended over a three year period to non-profit organizations, schools, and collaboratives in the Greater Boston, Southeastern Massachusetts, and Cape Cod areas. Mr.Feldman indicated that he has discussed and reviewed the funding initiative with Diane Hoppensteadt, Principal of the Morse Pond School in Falmouth. It was noted that the Falmouth School Committee voted unanimously to endorse the proposal. The program as defined will primarily focus on girls aged 8 through 14, and will serve approximately 60 girls in the Mashpee community. As noted,the program is intended to focus on math and science activities in addition to creative after school programs. Mr.Feldman indicated that the collaborative approach between the Mashpee and Falmouth school systems is a positive approach to pursue grant funding. Motion made by Mrs.Lynch to approve and support the Fireman's Girls ACTION grant application as defined. Motion seconded by Mrs. Mills. VOTE: Unanimous. 4-0. 8.3 Memorandum of Agreement - Unit C The Committee reviewed the Memorandum of Agreement between the Mashpee School Committee and the Mashpee Teachers' Association, Unit C. Motion made by Mrs. Lynch to approve the Memorandum of Agreement as presented between the Mashpee School Committee and the Mashpee Teachers' Association, Unit C. Motion seconded by Mrs. Cook. VOTE: Unanimous. 4-0. It was noted that all contract negotiations are now complete for the next three years.
