DeMoura explained that the Y <br /> cost to continue this service through the Cape Cod Collaborative <br /> would increase to $2,000 per school. After much discussion, it <br /> was decided that Dr. DeMoura will investigate alternative costs. <br /> .2 Posting of Positions - Dr. DeMoura asked to post positions Within <br /> the school system "subject to funding." Mrs. Lynch suggested <br /> delaying that until the joint meeting with the Board of Selectmen <br /> on March 23. Dr. DeMoura reiterated that positions were posted <br /> as "subject to funding" and hiring reeds to begin 'immediately. <br /> There was no action taken. <br /> .3 Recommended Budget Reductions 5 - As a result of the <br /> joint meeting held with the Board of Selectmen and Finance <br /> Committee, the School Committee asked ,lir. DeMoura to come,u <br /> with an additional $450,000 in budget cuts to reduce the budget to <br /> $11,500,000. Dr. DeMoura met with the principals and directors <br /> and devised a "Budget Review Process" form (Exhibit that <br /> categorized the cuts by A" (Needed), "B" (Highly Recommended), <br /> and "C" (Educationally Sound and Desirable). <br /> After the Committee reviewed the listing, they decided t o <br /> g <br /> through the entire budget, line item by lire item' to determine' if <br /> alternative cuts could be made. Possible cuts included $2,000 in <br /> legal fees, $700 in special education supervisor travel, $500 in <br /> high school principal postage, and $1,500 in high school principal <br /> awards. <br /> At this point, discussion on the Project Contemporary <br /> Competitiveness (PCC) program took place. Mr. Paxton said it clic] <br /> not male sense to spend $2,000 on a membership to send <br /> students to an off=Ca' e location. PCC is a six-week course held <br /> during the summer at Bridgewater Mate College. <br /> Dr. DeMoura defended the program stating that parents ofthe <br /> students who have attended in the past, praise the program very <br /> highly. Also, students who have participated in PCC have <br /> addressed the School Committee at their- regular meetings to tell <br /> therm homer much they appreciated and enjoyed attending. <br />
