II, Ac owledg- 4.1 Janet Kraskousl as - Paul Couture Award - Dr. DeMoura in- ments formed the Committee that High School Guidance Counselor Janet Rraskouskas was chosen as the 1998 recipient of the Paul couture Award. This award is given annually to one counselor in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts who exernpliffies the characteristics of Mr. Couture. 4.2 Peace Week Poetry contest Winners - Grade 9 - Dr. IeMoura listed the following Grade 9 students who submitted poetry for a contest sponsored by the Veterans for Peace, cape Cod Chapter. The winners were: caitiin Paler mo, Justin dole , Chris LaPorte, Shannon McLaughlin, Jennifer Nideur, and Laura Santos. 4.3 Cape Cod Groundwater Guardian Award - Dr. DeMoura informed the Committee that the illashpee School System was selected to receive the 1998 Groundwater Guardian Aquarian Award. The efforts for which Mashpee is being recognized were the following: • Grade 3 --- Groundwater teacher training unit plus fieri lessons with Renee Fudala ofGreen Briar Nature Center. 0 Grade - Groundwater teacher training, classroom projects and field lessons with Joan Mueller and Pat Harcourt of WBNERR. 0 Ilashpee High School - A group of students in Charles Anastasia's class have been involved in a year-long study of the Quashnet River in a Partnership with WHNERR. The entire Quashnet River School participated in a reading incentive program called "River of lReaders." An award ceremony was scheduled for May 9, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. at-cape cod Community College. The public is invited to attend.
