The maximum cost to be
borne by each of the 60 property owners is $6,800.50.
The Board of Selectmen opened the Hearing to solicit comment.
Charles Hunter, president of the residents association made several comments regarding the betterment
process stating that it seems unfair as many residents are on a fixed income. Mr. Hunter also said the
timing of the petition process goes against the resident with only three weeks to obtain signatures.
With respect to the letter mailed to the area residents Mr. Hunter indicated the notice was vague. Mr.
Hunter also asked about hydro-seeding, curbs, the drainage, miscellaneous and interest payments and
recommended the DPW take another look at the estimate.
Ms. Laurent responded by stating some of the issues relative to the betterment process have been
addressed at the prior hearing. This is an estimate proposed to cover all of the costs associated to this
project. If the conversion is delayed until the May 2019 Town Meeting, work would comment in the fall
of 2019. The miscellaneous budget allows for an increase in costs as the petition date is unknown.
