•
four porta-johns 2 for female 2 for male,,' The difficulty that
appears at Mashpee/Wakeby would seem to me to be the condition of the
restrooms that have been built there. Whether or not they are useable
If they are, I 'm pretty sure there are four stalls each side.
1
Recreation Director stated there are two on one side and two on the
other. There ,is no urinal and no running grater.
Chairman Benway asked the cost of a porta-john, Brad did not know
and Chairman .asked that ,he provide this information to the Board
before the end of the d y.
Chairman Benway then asked Mr. Buckingham as to what an accredited
bead was and were we one, Mr. Buckingham stated that we were not
and that the term Mould have to be defined by Town Counsel. He.
did state that he thought the beaches should reach accrediation.
Be felt that--we owe a responsibility to the users of the beaches
to make them as perfect as possible within limited means and that
more damage ,cold be done if enough money was not found for at
least two more porta-johns. Mr. Buckingham stated - that an
additional worry on the Board' s part was the ondition- of the sand
glass, etc. Mr. Norman stated that he had his lifeguards pick-up
surface glass and the condition is pretty rough - inn areas. -
hairman Benw' ay stated that the Maintenance Unit could do some
raking.
Selectman Thomas brought to the Board's attention that the
Conservation Commission has a special program which probably will
start next weep to clean-up the beaches.
Chairman Benway told Mr. Buckingham that he was absolutely right in
his concern for the people , e . stated .that first of all a would
have t ' :L -i%.
out, 'from Town Counsel :where we stand :l. ga1ly and also .
ghat -kinds ie we'ire talk. ng{,about, so .that -the ;Finance ..Co rii tee
w3_11 know = It - that ' should add two - ore porta- johns to
South Cape Beach. Mir. ' Dorman asked about the .toli t . and should-he
get an estimate for repairs. Chairman Benway told him to see how
much it would cost to het them hooked--up. Mr* Norman asked if
Maintenance could do it and Chairman Benway replied haat the
plumbing man, Peter Jacobson, could take cake of this particular
problem and Conservation could help with the clean-up.
Mr. Buckingham felt that perhaps a Little more thought should be
given ag to what revenues are being generated by the issuance of
beach stickers. One dollar a year is very little in compared to
the cost of maintenance. Chairman Benway agreed, but stated tha -:
you run into the problem of - I 'ern a tax payer and tray taxes , etc.
.. '.Chairman Benway then stated that Torn oun'sel would be asked to
check things out, we mill have Bard find out the monies . .involved
and meanwhile , Peter Jacobson can help out.
Selectman Garland asked why we wait until the day the beaches open
before this cores to our attention. Mr. Buckingham stated that
they do not know what equipment is going to be there until they
open - an area can 't be inspected until it's officially open.
2-
