Declared a vote by Chairman, <br /> Selectman c tman Gar-1 andr seconded - Selectman ctman Thomas <br /> r11. Motion de <br /> appointing Dorothy �studley as Secretary/Dispatcher to the Mashpee <br /> Police Department. Declared a vote by chairman. <br /> 12 , Time was alloted to Press. various discussions took place, i .e . , <br /> Transit Authority to include Mashpee , filling vacant positions , <br /> etc. <br /> 13. Board approved draft memo from the Board to Chairman, Personnel <br /> Board directing -Personnel Board to inform Business Agents or <br /> Association Presidents that further consideration of proposed <br /> change to tai--weeny paychecks has been postponed at this time. <br /> i <br /> This was at the recommendation of the Executive Secretary. <br /> 4 . Board deferred action to vote t ' em end the sura of--$602 .00 from <br /> Legal and Engineering. to be paid. to the Disaster Recovery Team. <br /> Town Counsel and Executive Secretary stated that they would like <br /> to study this before the Board makes a decision. <br /> 1 . Chairman asked Town Counsel where we stand in reference to <br /> George Costa. <br /> Town Counsel informed Board that -he brought a, letter in today <br /> but orally, Mr. Costa' s attorney has been representing hire in <br /> dealing with rine. There is a meeting scheduled with the judge <br /> for this coning week. at at which time , the judge hopes to force <br /> a settlement between parties . $50 ,000 . 00 has been offe-rred by <br /> way of a settlement. The amount of insurance in effect was <br /> $50 ,000. 00 . The insurance companyoffered phis amount to lir. Costa' <br /> attorney. They have determined t _ accept=that sum, however, the <br /> Town of Mhpee has paid Mr. Costa almost $59 ,000, 00 in Chapter 41, <br /> Section lll ', we have a lien on the recovery. Mr. Costa' s attorney <br /> is entitled to his attorney fees out of this settlement. They <br /> are going to tale 1/3 plus $1,000 .00 expended cost. Mr. Costa <br /> has the desire to split the remaining 50/50 with the Town. I told <br /> his attorney that this was not acceptable and we would not agree <br /> to that. Mr. Costa' s attorney then suggested that some other <br /> resolution could he made and I agreed. I called the Board and . I <br /> extended the offer of $5,000. 00 to Mr. Costa with the balance <br /> coming to the Town if it is settle noir and it is not prolonged <br /> any further. If it is prolonged, it could he another year or year <br /> an half. My feelings was that if we could .arrive at a judgement <br />
