ti
J
far as rate but we stand the bottom lime as far as numbers,
Mr, Peters asked number of unemployed or population.
Chairman responded number of unemployed.
Mrs, Averett stated that she felt that to- begin with Town Hall should
have been boarded up until something could have been done.
Chairman responded that it was boarded up.
Mrs. Averett stated that it wasn' t - boarded up when she went up. there,
We know who broke a great many of those windows and we also know
who left the holes in the room. we asked at our last meeting here
if there .was anyway that tar paper or. something could be put on that
room, plastic on the windows to secure .it before the winter storms
Came. Nothing was done along any of - those lines. You mention that
there was clean--up days . Now as far as I, know., no one has sought
funding. I know Chuckie sought funding through the Arts or something
like that in Falmouth, If the stage could be repaired so that they
could have plays and perform, they would write up a proposal to help
us . we had to dive there assurance, that the stage would be there.
In the meantime, I would like to see somebody put tar paper and
plastic -up there. The Town must have some money somewhere , The.
Tribal Council is' willing to do anything they can .to help. My
people want to help. - They want to see those building preserved, but
they don' t want to go in there 'and do all the work and seek funding
to help unless these other organizations who will come forth to
use the .-buildings after it is repair, come and help out now. I
don' t see the other organizations represented here today. They
weren' t represented at the last meeting either. May be they are
waiting for the buildings to be restored before they come forth.
I don' t think any contributions. have been sent in to help. we need
to try and secure i t for the winter. we don' t want to see these
buildings destroyed for the simple reason that with all the building
that is going on in this Town during the last few months , that school
up there may become over crowded and they may have to core back here .
Whose to say that may be you people may have to move back into that
Old Town Hall, that old USO Building.
Chairman responded no way.
Mrs .' Averett stated that she realizes that we would not move back
under the conditions it is in today but it has been stressed how
much a community building i -needed. I understand that the Senior
Citizens would also like to have use of a larger building from time
to time . This is what the idea was , to have a larder building for
the community to use. I don' t know ghat you intend to do or what
anybody intends to do., if the organizations here are not going to
support i t. They will tell you they are a l l in favor of it, but
they are. not doing anything to contribute money or time, I 'm sine
if somebody was to donate a couple of rolls of tar paper, they could
get somebody to put it up. Anything to preserve it through the
winter months. Perhaps by spring, we can work together a little
better so that we can come up with some answers..
Chairman stated that if he may, and may be Ray could make more
specific remarks , but I think we are beyond tar paper and plastic
_ _
