with the old Fire Station or the original Town lull over here..
The building was enclosed and somebody took it upon -th tse:l- tLto
try and drive a vehicle through the doors . I don' t know what
you can put 'up to secure a building, when somebody resorts to
that kind of activity.
Mrs. Averett stated that the mentioned earlier that they knew who
broke _some of- the' windows and -put the holes' .in the roof. I think
it was brought out at another meeting. that when the Police
Department left there, and 'they pulled all their wiring and
antennas out, you people didn't go back and see or tell them to
cover the holes. That was all just left. The holes were just
left there . Nobody came. we also . know. that some of those
same policemen' s children broke the windows. They were seen doing
it. They didn' t come and help sweep up that glass or even put in
a pane of g-lass. when you have people that are working for the
Town and can' t even take the interest to do these things , then
I don' t know what you are going to do. I can' t just blame iton
the vandalism, because I felt that if some kind of security had
j taken place in the beginning, perhaps and let me emphasize perhaps ,
some of these things wouldn' t have happened.
Chairman stated that as far- as what she was sabring, he has no
idea who dict the vandalism, and I don' t think it has been brought
to our attention who did the vandalism. f*we;i; ro 1 -I-II. to - know.
we are dealing with -a situation that exist today. we are dealing
with what is and time is working against us, . I think it is
encumbered upon this Board to make a decision if not at this meeting,
the next one, what to do with that building.
i
Mrs. Averett stated that we have- already held two meetings and nothing
has been done. I kir-d of get the feeling that the word is go for
demolishing them.
Chairman responded that to be honest, that is his 'option at this
point.
Selectman Thomas -stated that what-A., a zcrlpplie-d,. hem to r es .: trying '
to make that useful to the community as a whole ,' is that we just
can' t seem to put together the people to carry the hall to get it
going. It takes a commitment, time and 'organi nation.
Chairman added and to have the money to do i t.
Mrs. Aerett responded that this is why she stated earlier that if
the other, organization cared anything about it, I would have thought
they would have been here today and at the other meetings . If
somebody comes forward and -makes an effort to restore it, then they
will core forth to use it. You can bet on that.
Chairman recognized the Recreation Director.
The Recreation Director asked what the Lions Club dawe as a reason
for not taking over the building.
Chairman responded expense.
