Is there
anyone here .
Recreation Director asked Chairman if he thought there might be
possibility of approaching the Lions Club again and give then
an offer that they might not be able to refuse . I know they were
very enthusiastic about it in the first place and I ' ll be perfectly
honest. I think they felt that the deal the Town .was giving then
as far as going into the building, and the amount of effort they
wanted to put into it in the amount . of money, that they felt that
the time you would give them to get out of that building was not
long enough. The contract that you had proposed and written up
was not fair considering that they were willing to spend lo, 20 ,
o , etc, ,, .thousand dollars ,&
Chairman stated l t _,. mz1- make us - naofjfrci-el - a. l _lrfuse.
Recreation Director responded that he was talking about the Town
making the Lions Club an offer.
Chairman stated that he was saying for the Lions Club to make
us an offer.
Recreation Director stated that he has some of the motes from
the last meeting and the offers that they made. They wanted
o lease the building for ten years and .you wanted two gears
just as the school has given you two years so- that you, as Town
Hall , could rove back into the building and use it. What I see
here is that the intention here is, to never move back into that
building. You have solved your own problem. You can redo the
lease. May be you could even sell it to them for a very small
fee or make up some deal with thea and may be it can be saved.
I have seem kids- doing damage-, breaking the windows . I once
caught a group in, little league uniforms breaking windows.
I diciplined them as a group and that was the end- of it. Your
going to get a lot of andalism than way. The ones that stole-
the pipes are thieves . They will steal anywys and you are not
going to stop them. I think that you might go after the Lions
Club again and rake thea an offer.
Chairman stated that again, he will ask that the Lions Club
make us an offer-,
Selectman Thomas stated that she would life to say something that
was brought to her attention. The lumber in that building is still
firm and perhaps if we tore it down, and constructed something with
that lumber' we would be better off, I don' t know, that was just
a though that someone made*
Chairman stated that to tape ars old building - and rehab it from the
ground up is many times more expensive. .!than building one brand new.
We own the land and we have a white elephant on our hands which is
in horrible shape. It might make more sense to do what someone has
suggested to selectman Thomas and take whatever we recover from it,
which might not be a lot of money, but to go into a kitty which
 -
