r
i
•- supports the Town' s ,intentions to do something which makes a
difference when it comes to Federral -grants , and to go forth for
one type of a building which won' t come. in one or two years but
may be in three or four years as far as a community oriented
building. I just can' t see in my own mind the Lions Club which
is a super organization, risk funds and see what happen last April
happen all over again. ' I just don' t want to see them tape that
risk.
Ars.. verett asked if money was put .into this and it was restored
by whatever organization, would this still belong to the 'down.
Chairman responded yes .
Mrs , Averett asked if they would only lease, not sell.
Chairman responded that- correct.
Mrs .. verett asked hoar do you rebuild history when you talk about
tearing it clown and rebuilding.
Chairman responded that you don' t rebuild his troy.
Mrs. Averett stated that there is a great deal of history there.
Chairman stated that there is- a great deal of history in all
buildings. - You have to balance that over with what you' ve got and
what the cost is. History itself can' t be destroyed. The history
of the location can' t be destroyed. Memories can' t be destroyed.
Mr, Peters asked if the offer to entertain proposals open to other
organizations.
Chairman responded sure.
Selectman Garland stated that ghat he thought the Chairman was
really saying is that you are and I use ,the word loosely, you are
looking to us for leadership in the restoration of that building.
I think we are in reality looking at you, and again I use the word
very loosely, for the leadership, There are some people who are
vitally interested in the restoration of that building. There are
others who may want to use it but as yet have not demonstrated their
interest. when Chuckle Green carne forth and took this thine over,
I thought there was a great deal of promise . Unfortunately, because
of circumstances beyond his control he was not able to pursue that
direction, Also, unfortunately, there was noone that appeared from
the outside that was willing to step into his shoes . and continue
on in the direction that he' had started to go in. we are unfortunately,
faced with limited amount of funds at the present time because of
and all the restrictions that are going to be placed on the amount
of dollars that we are going to be able to spend. I think that if
anyone , group, etc, , are willing to demonstrate the leadership it
may possibly work out that something can be done to r-estorp, that:,-
building. I don' t know. There is not much that we can do as a
Board representing this Town financially. We can give you our
moral support and may be time ire manual-assistance and may be
raise a few dollars from independent people, but the bulk of the
_ _
