Thomas then stated that she didn' t want to by-pass the Personnel Board, but since they have stated that they are not going to meet as often, due to dwindling funds for their secretary, she wondered if this Board might take over the advertising and receiving applications for this Board' s own employees. This Board might screen them, and'" then pass it' s recommendations along to the Personnel Board. The Executive Secretary didn' t think this would be a good idea. Next we would have the Highway Dept. the Treasurer' s Office, and everyone else wanting to do the same thing. But he did state that we should be getting the office positions filled, as we can' t keep limping along. Sel . Thomas asked the temporary secretary, Grace Erdman, if she had informed the Executive Secretary of her willingness to continue work- ing, a minimum of 3 days a week, until someone could be hired. Grace assured those present that she was enjoying the work, and would be happy to work as long as needed, and honed this would relieve the Pressure of having to find someone immediately for the Administrative Secretary' s position. 3) Regarding Harold- Collin' s notification .by•the Co. Retirement Board that there are certain requirements he must fulfill, Mr. Collins had informed Sel. Thomas and Executive Secretary that he definitely wants to con- tinue in the position;' although he is •70 _years old. The Selectmen directed thetExec, ' Secretary to} send .Mr. Collins a letter, telling him • to do whatever is necessary to comply with the Retirement Board' s re- quest. 4) Chm. Garland introduced the next subject, relative to improvement-of minutes of our Boards, Committees and Commissions. He pointed out that he himself is quite dissatisfied with some of the minutes this Board receives from these other committees, and that in some cases the lack of accuracy could actually cause a legal problem. Exec. Secretary author- ized to follow through with his suggestion of requesting Town Counsel to prepare a Memo instructing the other Boards how to prepare proper minutes. 5) Conversion of former fire truck for use by Tree Warden, Board gave it' s approval of this action. 6) The Fire Department if cooperating with the Tree Warden in making the necessary equipment available to fill the truck from the ponds , for spraying, but this procedure has to be handled carefully, to prevent any back flow into the pond after chemicals have been added for the spraying process, as this would contaminate the pond waters. Chm. Garland pointed out that we should have live fire hydrants for the Police/Fire Complex, the Highway Barn, schools, etc . The Executive Secretary concurred, saying this would give us a long-term cost benefit. 711nformation on the Town initiating grass cutting was reported, and this . met with the Selectmen' s approval.
