oS Admin.-s t rative Mtg. <br /> 6/16/81 <br /> Page 4. <br /> Atty,, Weld next addressed the question of including "steps" in ' the <br /> Salary Administration Plan. The Executive Secretary stated that the <br /> - Highway Dept. Union is insistent on steps, but that Atty.. Weld and <br /> .the Personnel Board are opposed.Atty* Weld explained they feel that <br /> built-in step ureases plus cost of living increases, make for too <br /> "hefty jumps" . He reported that step increases cane in when. cost-of-- <br /> living increases were amounting to 2 % or % . He recommends against <br /> giving step increases, but- insuring fair cost of living increases. <br /> He continued that small, unsophisticated towns like this cannot devise <br /> accurate evaluation scales . . <br /> hm. Garland reported that at one time we- had steps in Mashpee, but it <br /> was abused. Set. Thomas stated that steps are fine if they ate pro- <br /> perly adr ministered, . ...quality of work should he a consideration, she <br /> feels-, but she recognizes that there are problems. Atty. Weld con. <br /> eluded by strongly advising the Town 'to keep away from steps. <br /> hm. ich.4 re orted that the Personnel-O Board has been interviewing for <br /> the two positionsp 'i in" "'the' Highway Department, and are about to <br /> recommend two candidates who are presently working for the Town under <br /> ETA status. They will , of I.4ourse", be on probation for six- months, <br /> and theipr .nendert will be advised of their backgrounds. He -will <br /> also .he asked to give them strong warnings and guidance. It was suggested that the Executive ecre . <br /> tarn contact the Athletic Association, although they are a frag- <br /> mented group, for assistance in handling the baseball trip. <br /> el. Thomas stated that Kevin O'Connell feels strongly that the <br /> Recreation Director's position should be part time one, and while <br /> this Board has agreed, the information hasn't been made public, <br /> She suggested that the Executive Secretary prepare a press release <br /> as - soon as possible, so the townspeople would know what is happen- <br /> ing. All present agreed. <br /> The Selectmen directed the Executive Secretary to have the Museum <br /> directional sign removed from the Rotary, since the Museum is <br /> closed, <br /> Had been taken cage of in Emergency Meeting. <br />
