Y
BOS Admin. Meeting
Nov. 3, 1981
Page 3 .
7 ) Mr. Murphy discussed with the Board some recent developments and
legal implications of recent actions in the area of Indian affairs.
9 ) Mr. Murphy presented an estimate which Ray Martini has obtained for
the staining and scraping and puttying of windows at the Indian
Museum. The estimate is for $1 ,500; there is presently $2 , 000 in
the account. Sel. Thomas asked if the money could come from the
Donations Account; Answer: yes , it could . If the money is taken from
the regular account, only $500 will be left for paying the expenses
on the building. Mr. Murphy felt this would be sufficient. Sel. Tho-
mas feels strongly that we should maintain the building.
10 ) Mr. Murphy announced to the Selectmen his planned meeting with the
Chief of Police and Harbormaster on the subject of Waterways Police,
and invited their comments . Mr. Garland stated he would strongly ob-
ject to the Waterways Police ever being armed. Mr. Murphy had dis-
cussed this previously with the Police Chief - they are no longer
armed.
11 ) On the matter of obtaining engineering funds for design of a traffic
island to relieve the problem at Great Neck and Red Brook Road inter-
section, Mr. Garland suggested contacting Chris Burden of New Seabury,
as he feels they may have a scale drawing already, which could be re-
duced in size. Sel . Thomas stated that there are now three plans on
file for that area, all different. Mr. Murphy theorized that since it
is in New Seabury's interest to have this work done, they may be wil-
ling to help us obtain the information, or help with the financing of
same. Mr. Garland stated that the State did some plans of that inter-
section also, and their plan. should be on file. Mr. Garland will speak
to Chris on this matter.
ANNOUNCEMENT: The Taxpayers Association will be meeting tonight at the Sr.
Center to discuss the Warrant for the upcoming Town Meeting. Mr . Mur-
phy and Sel. Thomas volunteered that they would be attending.
REPORTS:
1 ) Promotion in Highway Dept. Mr. Murphy alerted the Board to the fact
that the Personnel Board will probably be requesting a promotion in
the Highway Dept. at tomorrow' s meeting. This will be recommended to
fill the position recently vacated by Chuck Green. There are two appli-
cants for the position. The one who is not chosen will undoubtedly
apply for the position of Skilled Laborer.
2 ) Dr . Gaines: Sel. Thomas reported that Dr .
