Board of Selectmen <br /> minutes <br /> Wednesday , November 27, 1985 <br /> page 2. - — <br /> Mr. Virgilio agreed to take this out of the DPW expense account. <br /> Mr. Virgilio also requested permission to close down the -DPW on Friday the day after <br /> Thanksgiving, as all his employees have requested a Vra6tin day. Mr. Virgilio was <br /> advised that he was the department head and would have to rale the decision. <br /> Old Business <br /> 1 Selectmen received an advisory from the Department of Environmental Management <br /> stating they will be contributing $500,000 toward the protection of the 250- <br /> acre Mashpee River site. <br /> Selectman Thomas advised the Board that the Town will receive 2 million from Self- <br /> Help. <br /> 2Selectmen received copies of communication that Congressman Studds seat to General <br /> Conaway relative to the land acquisition of the Air National Guard to purchase lard <br /> that was acquired through a conservation self-fielp gram.. <br /> Selectman Thomas advised the Board that it appears the Federal Government i-s looking <br /> favorably upon the Town' s -request to retain ownership-. <br /> Selectman Thomas advised the Board that she ret with DEAF on the water problem in ars <br /> attempt to make them aware they need to address Mashpee' s problem as forcefully as <br /> they did Falmout-h. <br /> New Business <br /> i <br /> 1 Selectmen were asked to authorize the Executive S cretary to represent the Town <br /> relative to FEMA. The town tands to receive reimbursement for damage by Hurricane <br /> Gloria, <br /> Selectman Thomas moved to authorize the Executive Secretary, Joseph F. Murphy as the <br /> 'down' s representative to FEMA. Selectman 'ferry seconded. All were in favor. <br /> Selectmen received a memo relative to employee- attendance. Tho- Personnel. Board <br /> felt 'that .more consideration' shouId ,be given to a.t tendanc.,Q of an. em-p10 ee wl en <br /> Fr.anting a p r anent status i-th the t' ni-.,' This.'was-,d-u to a r cen'L,. decision of <br /> the Board to retain an employee hoar absent from 'work more than tern day ' s during <br /> her probationary period. <br /> Selectman Hanson asked that a memo be sent telling the Personnel Board that their <br /> decision was made based on the strong recommendation of the department head. <br /> Selectmen received communication from an organization called Our Turn relative <br /> to tourist tax. They are asking the co«amunity to adopt the excise tax on tourist-. <br /> Mr. Murphy advised the Board that the State has promised a print out showing how <br /> much communities are bringing in. <br /> Selectman Thomas moved to take this under advisement until further information is <br /> gathered. Selectman Danson seconded. All were in favor. <br />
