Personnel Board <br /> Minutes of December 5 , 1983 PAGE 2 <br /> Lifeguard Evaluations <br /> The Board reviewed a letter dated November 221 1983 from Wendy Rubin re- <br /> questing any information relevant to the procedures used for increasing <br /> wages and advancement by steps for returning lifeguard staff . Dave sug- <br /> gested that. she send her recommendations to the Board without the use of <br /> an evaluation. form. Carrie asked what criteria she would use for evalua- <br /> ting the lifeguards . The Board -d clded to have e-ndy use the evaluation <br /> form if completed . If the form was not completed , they agreed to have <br /> written recommendations . <br /> Appointment of Firefighters <br /> The Fire Chief appointed George Baker of Falmouth and Alf Rylander of <br /> Pr vincet wn as career firefighters . Employment with the town commenced <br /> as of today ' s date , <br /> No date has been set for the interviewing of call firefighters . <br /> Unfinished Business <br /> Danny asked the secretary to prepare a list of unfinished business which <br /> the Board reviewed. One item was discussed regarding the listing of -re- <br /> quired clothing for town employees . The Board asked if the -employees <br /> provided their own clothing or if money was set aside for what is required. <br /> The secretary will check into this . F <br /> I <br /> Another area under un'f-i- -ishe .bus.in ss regarding a c e i i n on a physician <br /> for the employee physicals was discussed . <br /> Comparative Salary Stud - Elected Officials <br /> The Board discussed the review being done currently on a comparative salary <br /> study for electedicial . in order t see i elected officials are paid <br /> on terms equitable with those of other towns in the Commonwealth . Select- <br /> man Garland stopped into the meeting on an informal rmal. basis at the Board ' s <br /> request . The Board asked him questions regarding the hours each selectman <br /> put in,. Selectman Garland said that they spend as much time as is neces- <br /> sary and that it is conceivable that a person could not show up once during <br /> the three-year- term , He said that one would have to give a great deal o <br /> thought as to why someone is running for Selectman . In his opinion , and <br /> the best way known currently, is that Selectmen appeal to the Town of <br /> ashpee for any pay raises , The Personnel Board agreed to discus the <br /> ,matter more thoroughly at their ret meeting . <br /> Secretarial. Pool <br /> The Board reviewed a letter- from Board o ' Health member , Charles Buckingham , <br /> stating that the proposal for a secretarial pool is all right except that <br /> when a hearing is being held the secretary assigned must be fully capable <br /> of excellent shorthand. <br /> Request west for Board Secretaries <br /> Requests guests were made from -the Water Quality Committee , the cranberry -Sub- <br /> mmittee and with the resignation of the Planning Board secretary, for <br /> secretary. The Parks & Recreation Committee ' s request for a Board <br />
