Personnel. Board Minutes
Meeting of October 24 , 1983 Page
Privacy for Personnel Office , cont .
Caroline asked if the area for the accountant was going to be big
enough , Joe said that it would be as she does not need everything
which is currently in her office .
Dave commented that he spends a lot of time in office buildings which
are able to control noises with cubicles . Joe said that in his experi-
ence with 5 to 6 foot panels , you could still hear what is being said
on the opposite wall . He suggested that as a temporary measure the
Personnel office be put in the Planning Board Room as he did not feel
the town coulee afford the cost of panels at this time .
Discussion was also made on the telephone and who would answer it .
Toe assured the Board that there would not be a problem,
Exit Interview Forms
Dave asked Joe if he thought an exit interview form would be useful .
Joe said that it could be helpful if used properly. Dave asked what
Joe ' s opinion would be if -there was a dace for both the department
head and the employee to sign. Joe said that if the employee knows
the department head would be seeing the form , he might be reluctant .
Dave asked if the information gathered should be fedback Toe replied
that you would not know how accurate it is . He suggested that the
Board determine what they- are looking for ; i .e . if they are trying to
find out for better working conditions or input for negotiation process ,
etc ,
Dave commented that it would be a way to get bad feelings out in the
open and have employee vent some steam . H said that way perhaps you
could keep employees longer , He thought both should sign the fora or
have employee fill out the fora with the Personnel Board and feed i
back.
Manny suggested that an employee be asked if they would be negative to
showing it and if he were , then you would know if he had been straight .
Dave said he felt that it gives the employee a chance to. unload on a
department head without having to defend himself . Joe said that in the
case of ars employee who feels animosity and vents ra h , the department
head would have last laugh if asked to give a recommendation from a
future employer .
Dave said he still thought that it would be viable if both sit down and
sign it together ,
Joe suggested again that the Board look at the basic purpose for using
an exit interview form .
Manny said that there is too much turnover in Personnel and that the
objective is o see if e can bring about a lessening of people leaving
the town ' s employ.
