Personnel Board Minutes of September 19 , 1983 Page Manny asked if that were the case , would a level 3 call roan get priority on a call? The chief replied "no" . He said that one of the problems by do- ing it that way would be the time lag. He said that in order to have capability to respond, you need to have people moving to- wards the station . Dave asked if the exam wa's per any standard Chief Hartin said that he plans to utilize someone from the education community. Dave asked about the physical exam? The chief replied that he was looking at tasks and raking it comparative to civil service . He said that it would be more in line with what the job entails and in line with most of the standards based n Tuscon , Arizonas strength and agility test. Carrie asked if the test was exclusive to Mashee or if other towns administer it both locally and statewide . She asked if the chief was familiar with the fire science program at the college and if he had any communication with regard to construc- tion of the test . The chief replied that other people do this mentioning that Con- cord used a similar exam. He said that many local communities use a fire related exam which could be discriminatory to women. Chief Hartin said that with reference to the community college , their instructors in Fire ,science of fire service professionals have had some , little or no preparation of tests and some have had a lot . He commented that he has worked for the State as a firefighter coordinator and has prepared tests , Carrie asked what education level he would be requiring? The chief said that he would be looking in the high school area or possibly higher. Carrie asked what grade level would a person have to pass verbal section of the test-? Chief Hartin said that in order to pass reading comprehension and math segmentsf the test , an individual would have' had to complete high school . Carrie asked if the test would disqualify people ]used on the verbal section?
