Personnel Board
Minutes of September 19 , 1383 Page
The chief replied "yes" , He said- that one of the functions of
the individual is to operate a pump and being able to perform
mental calculations commenting that a person would have had to
learn that in school or on their own. "Another task is the repar-
ation of an incident report and being able to read it in five years
time if you have to go to court.
Dave asked what the testing status was with the current men,
Paul Frazier replied , all but one individual , who were hired had
to tape written test artd strength and agility tests . He commented
that it was not as fair as the one the chief was putting together .
He commented that he did not want - to tape anything away from chief
Willis ; however, he did not have the expertise to develop a test .
Bob asked about the time frame on testing and advertising?
Chief Hartin said that they were looping to hire someone in Novem-
ber and would like to give the examination in October .
Manny suggested advertising and interviewing separately from full-
time and call men.
The chief said that would not be a problem as far as the advertis-
ing and interviewing; however , he would want to give the examination
and strength and agility test at the same time .
The Board requested a copy of the exam for their review.
Chief Hartin - said that he would like Paul. Frazier to sit in on-,the
interviewing process as a paramedic and not as Union President .
Chairman Sullivan replied that the Board encourages that .
Caroline asked if there was an age limit . The chief said that an
individuaL would+ have to be 18 years of age and that there was
no age limit on the upper level .
Carrie asked if -a person could take the test more than once
Chief Hartin replied that the list would be established for two
gears and then a person could take another test .
Dave asked if the examination was based solely on the exam score or
if the interview would be included.
Chief Hartinsaid that he 'world be inclined to base it on qualifi-
cations and- the examination score ,
Note : chief Martin is anointing authority,
