Personnel Board Minutes <br /> Meeting of August 3 . 1987 Page <br /> Meeting i th' Executive Secretary , cont . <br /> Caroline Gilligan pointed -out that�.in�the Government , it is at least <br /> thirty days . she said that a person would then .het a letter and re-' <br /> ceive monetary compensation retro-active -:' <br /> A <br /> Ben Lofchie stated that he was strongly against it if a person who is <br /> an Assistant =� lxlfills that person ' job, wile on vacation.. He stated <br /> again that if a person became ill ,' he could see it , <br /> i <br /> i <br /> Manuel Glickman suggested a thirty day period and making it retro-active � <br /> and more than $20 a day . <br /> Joe Murphy asked that the Board give that some consideration on some <br /> formula of this type . <br /> Chairman Sullivan asked if an employee would get compensated for seven <br /> . . days instead of five days . Joe Murphy said that the individual has to <br /> work additional hours but probably only during a five day work week . <br /> Caroline Gilligan referred to job descriptions statin' g that most say 'any <br /> ether~ assigned duties " . She said that - it is taken for gTanted that <br /> second in charge moves in and does the job ., If beyond the thirty days , <br /> then it is more than temporary '. . <br /> i <br /> Ben Lofchie asked if there was anything in the contracts for the Fixe, <br /> Chief and Police Chief . Toe Murphy stated that it was just in -the <br /> Deputy Police Chief ' s contract and the the Deputy Fire . Chief position is. <br /> not funded . <br /> Manuel Glickman asked Joe if his assistant tools over , would he have the <br /> right to give salary . Joe replied that if he names that person , he shall r <br /> be compensated at same level of pay , but not to exceed salary and that he <br /> can go ten working days without naming a person . Manny Glickman suggested <br /> that the Executi.ve secretary ' s -law be amended - <br /> ilk <br /> mend d _ <br /> Boardof—Health -- r6 -:.' Health Agent <br /> Joe Murphy told the Board that members of the Board of - Health contacted <br /> him relative to the 'HeaLthJiAgent *receiving sick time. from the sick bank . <br /> s _ <br /> The secretary advised --Joe thAt the ' Agent was not receiving tilt e from the <br /> bank . He told the 'Board that he has advised the Board of Health to re- <br /> quest legal counsel- as there may be. a i i uation regarding personnel policy . <br /> F . .0 ; y <br /> "ire Department Input -for_ Fire Chief Interviews <br /> Lt . George�Baker�met with the Personnel Board in follow up to a request <br /> that members of the Department be allowed to dive- input towards the inter- <br /> views of the - Fire Chief . <br /> Lt . Baker said that ire- h.is opinion he would hope the person chosen for the <br /> position would be someone from the area and not a person from out of state . <br /> He told the Board that the department is understaffed and lacking funds and <br /> that it is difficult for someone not familiar to cope with it . <br />
