Shellfish Constable Report:
Rick York said that his team was fabricating bags of shellfish shells for
propagation purposes. Water quality monitoring was ongoing. He noted that
low levels of pseudomtzchia was observed, but no toxin found in the
shellfish tested. Rick and Ken had a discussion about town liability
concerning dredging and shellfish grants. Ken noted it is possible for the
dredge pipe to be moved by unpredictable storm activity onto a shellfish
site and cause damage. It is felt that the selectmen should clarify and limit
this liability in grant shellfish awards. In the meantime, Rick will again
provide notification to Mr. Cooke( a grantee) when the dredging take place
and that the town cannot be responsible for an adverse natural event that
may impact the shellfish grant. Mr. Bates will review this issue with the
Town.
Committee Reports:
➢ Mashpee Lakes-Wakeby Lake & Johns Pond -nothing to report
>- Popponesset Bay Area-nothing to report
>- Waquoit Bay Area- nothing to report
>- Water Quality Update/Water Sampling- nothing to report
>- Barnstable County Coastal Resources Committee Update-nothing to
report
➢ Sewer Committee Update-nothing to report
➢ Public Access Update- Al Wicket and Catherine Laurent continued
collaboration on signage for ramp areas.
>- Waterways improvement Pian & Dredging
-
1916 Channel dredge is complete
- Popponesset Channel dredge to start on March 10th, and did
not require additional equipment.
NEW BUSINESS:
Ken Bates noted that with regard to the 1916 channel work, he is working
with Sullivan Engineering on the COC {certificate of completion}.
