Johns Pond was incredibly busy during the middle-end of June and throughout the entire month of
July.our staff conducted dozers of safety inspections, wrote numerous citations, and terminated
multiple vessels/personal watercraft from Johns Pond. I installed a highly visible yellow rope around
the swim area at Coast Guard Beach, with orange fluorescent floats attached. This solved almost all of
our issues with vessels corning inside or near the swim area. Numerous citations were issued for
Negligent Operation of Personal Watercraft;and after attending the hearings at Falmouth District Court,
all of the citations were upheld, and the operators were found responsible.
Mashpeef Wakeb -our overwhelming presence and enforcement action at Johns Pond, began to wear
down the operators of the vessels and personal watercraft causing the issues. By the end of July,we
noticed the vessels causing problems on Johns Pond, shifting over to Mashpee/wakeby. Our office
mirrored the shift, and stepped up our patrols on I ashpee/wakeby, safety Inspections, Citations, and
removing watercraft from the pond once again rade a big difference. By the enol of August, both Ponds
had slowed down considerably and by Labor Day weekend, the ponds were surprisingly calm,
Waquoit-There has been a lot of boating traffic in and out of Waquolt.Washburn has been very busy
on weekends with families enjoying the great weather we have had each weekend. There have been no
major enforcement issues or violations to note in waquoit.-The fishing has picked up.The water is full of
baitfish, and on Patrol I see fish breaking all over the place. There are a lot of boats out enjoying the
great fishing this time of year offers, and the vessels we have checked are in compliance with a l I safety
requirements.
Popponesset was very calm this year. I only had two or three complaints about boating related
violations throughout the entire season. When on Patrol, my staff noted Arno—wake"violations as the
most frequent infraction. These were corrected with a verbal warning, and the boaters continued on
their way at headway speed.
Ken Bates supplemented this report by adding that he and the Town Manager
received an email from Eric Peterson of STB organization expressing concern
about activities by visitors on the Audubon Property at the spit. Enforcement
personnel were notified and there were no issues over the Labor Day weekend.
DNR Director/ shellfish Constable Report: Dick reported active shell fishingin the
Mashpee waters. He noted there is an abundance of stinging jellyfish of the "sea
nettles" variety,( a southern species.) He has put posters up at all of the Town
landings. on shellfish propagation, there are 10 million quahog seed in up
dwellers and trays. oyster bags are located in Mashpee and Shoestring Bay and
