I <br /> i <br /> Board of Selectmen Page Three <br /> Regular Meeting <br /> Monday July 27, 1987 <br /> the inter-town Mutual Aid system of handling emergencies , noting <br /> that if the Town Of Mashpee did not respond to a, mutual-aid call <br /> with a, full complement of firefighters and the necessary equipment, <br /> ent, <br /> as expected to and agreed to , then in all probability, other towns <br /> would not feel obligated to respond to I a.s pee 's calls for assist- <br /> ance ,, <br /> Acting chief Chase reported that the Town of Bourne has <br /> offered to supply the Town of l ashpee with the use of an engine at <br /> no cost when Iash.pee ' s attack engine is out of service for repairs . <br /> Bourn6 l s engine would be available to I a.sh.pee for as long as needed <br /> 3. S,Qhool Committee. School Superintendent Lincoln <br /> Del oura and members of the School. Committee were present to discuss <br /> measures that could be taken to prevent a deficit in the school <br /> budget, Dr, DeMoura presented a. schedule of enrollments for the <br /> kindergarten through eighth grade for years 1982 through 1986 and <br /> including projections through 1991. He also presented a proposed <br /> budget for FY 88t and a Special. Education budget showing tuitions <br /> for FY 86/87. He said that enrollments have been steadily increasing <br /> and that every available bit of space is being utlil ed for-. class- <br /> room space . Dr. De Moura, explained the budget outs of $�,000,00, for <br /> Y 88. In explaining Special Educa.ti n, he stated that special ed- <br /> ucation. <br /> d- <br /> u ation. is very, eery expensive and that there is no way to predict <br /> how many children will require special education. Mrs . McKay noted <br /> 0 that it is difficult to rake predictions regarding enrollments for <br /> an entire school year because s o mangy- families move in and out. <br /> Dr. Del dura said that there are no solutions as to how to avoid a. <br /> deficit this year and "I am looking for suggestions . The only <br /> thing left to us is to reduce the staff". I was agreed that the <br /> School Committee and Dr* DeMoura would report periodically so that <br /> the Board can be aware of what is proceeding and be able to heap <br /> work out solutiOns and perhaps re-route monies <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> 1. Assistant Shellfish Wardens . Shellfish Constable <br /> David Reran submitted a. proposed pa.y scale for Assistant warders in <br /> a. memorandum dated July 22, 1987. Mr. Gottlieb moved to accept the <br /> pay scale as presented by Constable Ryan. lir. Carter seconded the <br /> Motion. The vote was unanimous , <br /> 2. Parks & Recreation Department - substitutea.te <br /> attendants . In a. memorandum dated July 21 1987 , the Personnel. <br /> Board expressed its concurrence with the recommendation from the <br /> Director of the larks and Recreation Department to appoint Phillip <br /> Hicks and Lucille Mograss as substitute Gate Attendants for the <br />
