f 1 Board of S l ectmen-s Mtg. s i nu tes of August 31 1987 Recreation Committee , the parents in attendance and herself have a public hearing to discuss programs. She said that as far as setting up the fall sports, she would do her best to assist thea so that they can use the field, She said that all youth sport programs need volunteers in order to work ; they need supervision and guidance . Sel . Carter said that he would like to see the immediate problem of the soccer program solved within the next day or two. He said thea he would like to see a public hearing set up within the next week or two weeks sending out notices to the Youth Commission , to the Park and Recreation Committee and everyone else interested regarding the fall and winter programs for xouth and adults. He said that he would come and try to work something out . Wendy asked about the issue of the Program Director . Se l . Thomas asked what the Board"s wishes were . Sel . Carter aced that Mr. Murphy's last paragraph be explained. Joe Murphy said that he recommended to the Board that they not fill three positions because of the deficit of the town. He said that if the town meeting concurs with the motion tonight to eliminate that deficit by transferring money from the Council on Aging Out-Beach Worker Account , they will satisfythe deficit . The money would thea be available to fill the Program Director position . However ,. he made the Board aware that the school department anticipates the reed of more money stating that the respresentatives of the school committee cane before the Board stating that they may have problems in the budget area. He said that it is likely they would know by September 15 as to how much money they will need. Mr . i urph also pointed out that the overtime costs in the Fire Department h ave exceeded the funds available for this fiscal year . The Board has been advised by the Acting Chief that he is unwilling to meet reductions in services without the Board specifically authorizing therm and if they did authorize them, he would terminate his appointment as Acting Chief . Sel , Carter asked about the money from the Federal Government when the sale goes through . The Executive Secretary advised not planning on that for th i s f h scat year. Sel . Carter suggested that Wendx get a list of her various programs together and then he could get together with her and discuss options and then he would come back and report them to the Board. The Board members were all in agreement . Gail Scri a of Park and Recreation Advisory Committee asked how long i 1 1 it be before they know if they will be able to have a Program Director. Sel , Carter said that was why he would be meeting wi th Wendy* Sel ; Hanson said that he would be looking at priorities. They could not release any money right now until they know the situation at the Fire Dept . and School Dept .
