4
BOARD of SELECTMEN EN Page
MINTS
o DAY, JANUARY 28j 1991
Budg t Discussion:
The recommendation was rade by Kevin Harrington to eliminate
the Assistant Buildin Inspector position. This would bring a
potential savings of 3590000
It was also recommended to eliminate the Assistant Hea.lthi Agent
position and part-time clerk in the department, The budget of the
Sewer Commission is also recommended to be eliminated for a, savings
of $110008
Ir. Harrington has also recommended the twenty hour week of the
Leisure services Program Coordinator Position be eliminated. Concern-
ing the Lifeguard and Gate Attendants that are funded during the
summer months be eliminated,
To open a town beach without lifeguards would be no liability
to the town if services are not available. lir. Reardon also states
proper signage should be posted of no lifeguard attendant. Given
our number one priority is public safety, Selectman Jacobson finds,
this difficult to understand. With the recommendation to increase the
beach sticker fees, how can we sell a. sticker and expect more revenue
with no lifeguard attendants?
The reduction of the DPW salary account is recommended by Mr.
Harrington by $20, 000. There is no specific body, but ars employee
will be retiring in -July, He has reovmmended not to fill this position.
The Expense -Account of the DPW is also recommended to be reduced by
$10t000s
With eliminating the Custodian in the Library, the clean-up
would be done by the DPW at the same level of service. The librarian
stated since the library is open six days per week there is heavy
usage and it should not be neglected.
Concerning the Personnel Board Secretary Account, there are
currently two accounts unclassified a.t this time. The recommendation
is to eliminate the account by $4, 000.
It has also been recommended to relocate the Board of Health and
Building Inspector' s office to the Town Fall. The lease with Deer
Crossing expires on the first of August. The potential savings is
$19: 600# Mr. Harrington has recommended the Accountant' s office be
roved to the conference room mobile area and the Board of Health and
Building Inspector relocate to that- office area,
With the recommendation of eliminating the three Waterway Assistant
Positions in the summer, it would leave only the position for the
Harbormaster to dela.gate. Selectman Jacobson is concerned with public
safety and it being the number one priority to the Town,
It has been recommended to reduce the Town Planner secretary to
. 5 PTE to a twenty hour per week osition. To reduce the selectmen' s
Legal and Engineering Account by 17, 000 is, also suggested. Someone
from the Selectmen' office: would be appo .red on a temporary basis.
The Police Department' s Salary Account has a. recommended reduction
of $25, 000 which is basically a. position to delete at the Chief' s
discretion,
