BOARD 0 SELECTMEN Page 2
MINUTES
MON DAY, MARCH 18p 1991
Mash ee/ akey Pond Gate:
Ir. Harrington has recommended that during the peak months of
usage, June, July and August that events be restricted to a maximum
of 25 on any given day with a. gate attendant.
Groups over 25 will e required hire an environmental protection
Officer during the other* months of the year, He has also recommended
that no tournament or event begin prior to 7: 00 a.m.
In the discussion=-with the Public Access Board, when the number
is specified, the permit is granted for that number, Our number is
our own as discussed by Mr. Harrington, Most events range 10-15
while others have 50 participants
Selectman Jacobson has recieved complaints from area residents
f events starting at 6-6630 a.m. with the use of a bullhornto start
thea. Boats are also reported speeding excessively down the pond.
She has suggested the restriction be limited to 20 per day.
Selectman Lawrence did not realize there were so many problems
of this concern, He has recommended the Board not allow it in our
town.
The motion was made by Selectman Lawrence not to allow any
requested fishermen and their groups into any of our ponds in i ashpee.
Selectman Jacobson seconded the motion for discussion.
Selectman Gottlieb has been a strorysupporter of Mashpee' s ponds
and feels it doss not constitute a major issue. The Board should
derive at a maximum allowance. The smaller tournaments generally
don' t cause a major problem. The bulk of the use is on either side
of the summer with no real conflict with the other groups. In Selectman
Gottlieb' s opinion, the recommendations from Kevin Harrington are
superior. The gate attendant with the large groups would probably
work to control the area.
The motion was rade by Selectman Gottlieb to adopt Kevin Harrington' s
regulations and not issue a permit for over 35 at any time of the year.
June, July and August would be li ited to 25.
Selectman Jacobson has withdrawn from Selectman'' Lawrence' s motion
not to allow any groups. Selectman Lawrence has also withdrawn his
motion.
Selectman Jacobson has seconded the motion made by Selectman
Gottlieb to adopt Mr. Harrington' s regulations, The vote is favorable
2--1 with Selectman Lawrence in. opposition.
Selectman Lawrence is in opposition because of the time consumption
involved to schedule the events, He would like the state to ruin the
ramp and take on the responsibilities.
With the regulation approval From the Board, the Public Access
Board would abide by the regulations. Tournaments for approval would
know the limit is 35.
