Where may be no responseo In the past, the state ran the ramp and there were problems. 7:30 P.m- volunteers in Governments. As reported by Robert Sullivan, there are currently eight volunteers five months into the program. The potential savings to the town is $4, 000. The volunteers work throughout the town as clerks. There is also a computer person, Mr. Sullivan has talked with Senator Kennedy of the VIG program. In two months when the group is formed money will be available. He w911 update the Board of this concern The Board agrees the dedicated volunteers in government service have dome a great job. 701 p.m. Selectman Carter has arrived for the meeting. 7:32 p.m. Tax Classification, Ben Lofchie reported the tax bills are ready to go on time and made note of the efforts of David Bailey and Lynne Traudt in the department. They are proud to have David Bailey as a. deputy assessor. David Bailey was present to discuss the tax classification with the Board. To adopt an open space dicount is not recommended by the Assessing Department, The Board of Assessors discounts heavily with -limits to the use of open space. Selectman Gottlieb has suggested iiot to provide tax relief In a. development with open space that would have benefit to thea and try to provide the ability for people to leave parcel.s of land open, not just the developers, To grant a residential exemption is also not recommended by the Assessing Department, vacation home owners would claim lashpee as their r sid hce to avoid the tax and decrease the tax base. The Assessing Department has also recommended nd� adopting a split tax rate. This would create hardship for existing businesses;. and discourage commercial investment in Mashpee. Most businesses in Mashpee are sole proprietorships, The motion was rade by Selectman Lawrence to remain at the resident tax factor of one and not discount open space. The motion was seconded by Selectman Gottlieb. The vote is unanimous. The motion was made by Selectman Lawrence not to grant a. residential exemption, The motion was seconded by Selectman Jacobson, The vote is favorable 3-1 with Selectman Gottlieb in opposition. The motion was made by Selectman Lawrence not to adopt a split tax rate. The motion was seconded by Selectman Gottlieb. The vote is unanimous with the Board.
