Mr. Harrington had previously recommended the appointment of this position for lasp Athan.one year Selectman Gottlieb and Kev�{wn Harrington met with Mr. Fudala to address their concerns* With the Administrative Plan Mr. Harrington has introduced, there are a, number of significant charges to persue, Mr. Fudala' s office is one of the most important offices in the Town. Mr, Harrington' s cone ern i s to refocus this department* Most of the Planning Department' s focus has been on long range plans for the Town. With the current state of the economy, we have to be realistic f the long range proposed plans for the Town. -r Mr. Harrington recommends the Planning Dertrent v Executive Secret&ry and Board of Selectmen derike toward"their their goals. Not the long term goals as dome in the past, but goals towards economically funding our staffing needs. The recommendation for a less than one�, year appointment was not based on the Town Planners competence, but major focus of the way the department handles business. The Town should be clear in its direction with the Planning Department tit s key focus reports Mr. Harrington. As a Board states Selectman Gottliebt we meed to have Tom fill our expectations of which h is capable of. We all agree there has been a lack of realistic direction from the Executive Secetary0 s Office which was not s ley under Mr. Harrington. Selectman Ilan son made note of the work he has done with Tom in the past and the direction he was given, With five bosses, h always did what he was told to do. Based on his, experiences with Mr. F'udala, Selectman Hanson feels he is capable to carry out what the Board would like him to do once he' s had clear direction. Selectman Cafes made note of the evaluations she has reviewed. All were outstanding. She is in full support of his reappointment. He has never had 'a direction from the Board of Selectmen states Selectman Lawrence* The key is for the Board of Selectmen to set the goals to direct him. Let' s do apt Chairman Jacobson added the goals are set by the will of the people. The motion was made by Selectman Gottlieb to appoint Tom Fiudala. as Town Planner until June 30t 1992. The motion was seconded by Selectman Caffyn. The vote is favorable with the Board. The vote is l with Selectman wrenc a in opposition, 8:32 p.m. Assistant Harbormaster Reappointments Ir. Benway was not present for the discussion as to why he is not recommending Mr. Somerville for the appointment. Mr. Somerville has no idea as to his reasons why.
