Popponesset S it . - <br /> The second portion of the draft report indicates that the <br /> present inlet at the cotuit end is relatively stable informs <br /> Mr. Gordon. A two inlet analysis was not made of Popponesset Bay <br /> noted Mr. Gordon.. <br /> The breaching potential of the Spit is considerable now <br /> indicated Mr. Gordon. The report indicates there is considerable <br /> over topping and over washing of the Popponesset Spit. <br /> Over the past twenty-five years, 1966-1991 , the Spit height <br /> has changed from 13 . 51 to 61 , width 2501 to 80 , and has moved <br /> from ' to 6601 towards the land at Popponesset Island noted <br /> Mr. Gordon, <br /> Mr. Gordon reviewed a chart of 1938 to 1991 of the <br /> Popponesset Spit. In 1938 , the Spit was approximately 1 . 7 miles <br /> long. It is now approximately /loth ' s of a mile long. There is <br /> considerable inward migration of the entire Spit informs <br /> Mr. Gordon. The width is also severely diminished and the height <br /> has been reduced considerably$ <br /> Several solutions include beach nourishment and the addition <br /> of sand on the beach as recommended in the report indicated <br /> Mr. Gordon. One option as recommended in the draft report is to <br /> boat under the Popponesset . Island bridge, but this would require <br /> considerable dredging noted Mr. Gordon. <br /> Mr. Gordon indicated that - the report is preliminary. <br /> Additional work is necessary. This includes ; profiles , velocity, <br /> wave conditions , inlet stability and the long shore transport . <br /> Mr. Gordon indicated that there is no economic impact included in <br /> the report. <br /> A tentative meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 1 , <br /> 1993 at 10 :00 a .r . conference Room #1 Town Hall to discuss the <br /> technical aspects of Popponesset Spit informs Mr. Gordon. <br /> Scheduled to attend the Waterways Commission meeting <br /> relative to the above are; The Army _corp of Engineers , Department <br /> of Environmental Protection, cape cod Commission , Coastal Zone <br /> Management, Save the Bay, the rational Heritage Society, <br /> Conservation Agent Bob Sherman, Harbormaster Hank Madden and <br /> Shellfish constable Richard York indicated Mr. Gordon, <br /> i <br />
