BOARD of SELECTMEN Page 2 <br />MINUTES <br />THURSDAYt_FEBRUARY 11r 19923 <br />COMMUNICATIONS ANDCORRESPONDENCE: <br />WHo1 esearch'Center: Selectman Caffyn indicated that she <br />stet with a representative from a Cambridge design firm with <br />regards to the proposed WHOI Research Center. She noted that <br />this firm has recently Completed a project in Florida related to <br />fish and game. <br />Indication was given that most of the specifications of the <br />WHOI project relate to economics informed Selectman Caffyn . The <br />Cambridge firm is Currently developing a Cost package with ideas <br />and Concepts to propose Mashpee as the ideal community for the <br />research Center. <br />Selectman Cafyn indicated that she has discussed the above <br />proposal with Douglas Storrs. He may Contribute to this Concept <br />for Mashpee. Selectman Caffyn also recommended to Consult the <br />Chamber of Commerce with rewards to contributions. <br />In discussions, we may be able to develop the whole Town as <br />a learning nature Center informed Selectman C ffyn. She noted <br />that there are other agencies that may be interested in moving to <br />the Cape for this type of concept. <br />Deidre Greelish indicated that she recently attended a <br />School Committee meeting. The school Committee was considering <br />the purchase of a $37,000 mini computer, Mrs* Greelish noted <br />that the sum of $27,000 was budgeted for the above. The School <br />Committee voted against the purchase. <br />Mrs. Greelish indicated that Dr. DeMoura purchased and <br />installed the mini Computer before the vote of the School <br />Committee. she has asked the School Committee for a Copy of <br />every purchase order and invoice pertaining -to this Computer. <br />Mrs. Greelish indicated that this purchase is a waste of the <br />taxpayers moneylb <br />As a computer consultant, Mrs, Greelish indicated that she <br />discussed the Concept of personal -computers with Dr. I eMoura. <br />She showed him a program that is currently used in over 700 <br />school systems. This program Can also be utilized in conjunction <br />with the equipment the School Department currently owns noted <br />Mrs. Greelishdb The Cost including maintenance is Considerably <br />lower than the mini Computer system. <br />Mrs, Greelish noted that Dr. I eMoura informed her that the <br />School Department has used this program for approximately three <br />years. He indicated that they did not like the programs. <br />0 <br />
